Student answer (Band 6.0)

A few individuals are of the opinion that from the dressing style, it is possible to tell about individual's culture and character. If asked, I firmly agree with the aforementioned statement. My inclination is justified in the forthcoming paragraphs with relevant examples.

To begin with, a person's clothes tells a lot about the place from where he belongs. This is because if an individual is wearing a particular kind of the clothes than it will be easy to identify his native place as the people from that place wears similar kind of the clothes as well as different qualities like their eating style and life style can also be determined. For example, according to an artile published in TCT- The Canadian Times, states that it is really easy to identify south indian people as 95% of the individuals prefer to wear white shirt and pant.

Furthermore, clothing style conveys more about the financial condition of an individual. By this I mean that if a person wears decent clothes, it will be assumed that he is having a well settled job and belongs from a decent family, whereas a person with tornout and dirty clothes indicates that his financial condition is not good. To cite an example, according to a survey conducted by the students of University of Calgary states that 72% of the employees prefer to wear the same uniform throughout the week as they cannot afford to buy other pair of working clothes.

All in all, it can be finally commented that my reasons for the choice of clothes an individuals wears indicates the place from where he belongs as well as tells a lot about his financial condition are plausible.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: “I firmly agree,” and both body paragraphs give reasons related to what clothing may reveal. The first paragraph links dress to cultural or regional identity, while the second discusses financial circumstances, so the response addresses the question. The examples also make the points more concrete. However, the discussion of character is less fully developed: most of the response focuses on place of origin and income, rather than explaining what clothing choices might suggest about personality, values, or self-expression. Some claims, such as identifying South Indian people by a particular outfit, are presented broadly and would benefit from qualification. Develop the character aspect and explain more clearly how each example supports your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two reason-based body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “All in all” help the reader follow the progression, and each body paragraph has a central focus. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, the links between claims and examples are occasionally mechanical: “For example” and “To cite an example” introduce evidence without much explanation of what it demonstrates. The conclusion also repeats the two reasons rather than drawing them together. Use clearer referencing and add a sentence after each example to explain its relevance; this would make the progression more natural and cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “dressing style,” “native place,” “financial condition,” and “uniform,” and the main ideas remain understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “my inclination is justified” and “plausible.” However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, including “belongs from a decent family,” “tornout and dirty clothes,” and “other pair of working clothes.” Spelling errors such as “artile” also reduce accuracy. Some phrases are repeated, particularly “kind of the clothes” and “a person.” Aim for more natural combinations and greater precision—for example, describe clothing as “worn or unkempt” and refer to someone’s “socioeconomic circumstances” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if an individual is wearing…” and a contrast using “whereas.” The overall meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “a person's clothes tells” has subject–verb disagreement, and “the people from that place wears” has the same issue. Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “a particular kind of the clothes” and “according to an artile published in TCT… states,” where the reporting phrase is not grammatically integrated. The final sentence is difficult to follow because its subject and verb relationship is unclear. Review agreement, article use, and how reporting clauses are formed, then check long sentences for a clear subject and main verb.
