Student answer (Band 6.0)

Certain individuals believe that a person's choice of clothes can describe his culture and character. I strongly agree with this view because the choice of clothes can be a strong indicator for a person's character or his culture.

Firstly, most people like to wear their cultural clothes becuase they feel comfortable wearing them. As in their growing age, they have seen their mothers and relatives wearing cultural clothes, they become attached to those cultutral clothes and feel comfortable wearing them. In this way, a peron's choice of clothes helps to tell alot about a his culture. For instance, Sindhi ajrak is a prime example of depicting a persons's culture by his clothes. When someone wears Sindhi ajrak, it reprsents his Sindhi culture and when someone wears a Balochi shalwar, we usually identify him as a Balochi person.

Furthermore, a person's choice of clothes can also indicates his charcater too. Many lively and excited people are interested in colored clothes. For instance, most extroverts choose vibrant colored clothes i.e red, yellow, pink colored clothes which describe their lively and fun loving nature and also displays the spark in them. While many introverts usually choose dull colored clothes i.e black or brown colored clothes which displays the maturity and calmness in their personality.

In conclusion, an individual's choice of clothes can tell alot about their character and culture. In some cases it might not be true but in mostly cases the kind of clothes that people choose to wear represents their culture and character.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening: you strongly agree that clothing can indicate culture and character. You address both parts of the claim and support them with relevant examples, including the Sindhi ajrak and the contrast you draw between colourful clothing and subdued colours. This meets the task well. However, some claims are broad and would benefit from qualification: for example, associating introverts with black or brown clothing does not explain that people may choose colours for many other reasons. The cultural paragraph is more convincingly illustrated than the character paragraph, and the conclusion mainly repeats the position. To strengthen the response further, develop the reasoning behind each example and acknowledge more clearly that clothing can suggest, rather than reliably reveal, someone’s identity.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around culture and character, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” make the stages explicit. Examples are generally placed next to the point they support, which helps the reader understand your argument. Some linking is a little mechanical, and repeated references to “a person’s choice of clothes” make the flow less flexible. The sentence beginning “While many introverts…” is also attached to the previous idea in a way that leaves the contrast less smoothly integrated. Use a wider range of referencing and transitions, and connect examples to the claim they illustrate more naturally, while retaining this clear paragraph structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “cultural clothes,” “vibrant,” “introverts,” and “extroverts.” The examples also give the response some specificity. However, the range is limited by repeated wording such as “choice of clothes,” “clothes,” and “culture,” and several word-choice or spelling errors reduce precision: “depicting” is awkward in this context, while “charcater,” “reprsents,” and “cultutral” are misspelled. Phrases such as “colored clothes” and “fun loving nature” could be expressed more naturally and precisely. Aim to vary key terms and check spelling carefully; choose collocations that describe clothing and personality idiomatically rather than relying on repeated general words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including explanations with “because” and clauses beginning “As” and “While.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and make several sentences less controlled. For example, “a person’s choice of clothes can also indicates” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “a his culture” contains an unnecessary article. In “As in their growing age, they have seen…,” the clause is not formed correctly; a clearer structure would be “As they grew up, they saw…”. There are also agreement problems in “which displays” when referring to plural “clothes.” Practise accurate agreement, articles, and clause construction, while keeping the useful variety of sentence patterns you are attempting.
