Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that people's fashion sense determine their personality .I completely disagree with this statement beacuse

The primary reason why i disagree with this view is that some people are being judgemental of others by their clothing . Everyone has right to wear whatever they feel comfortable. For instance, most of the people like to wear light- cotton nightwear while sleeping which does not mean they cannot afford to buy heavily designed clothes. Another important point is that most of the wealthy personality people does not want to show off their wealth so they do wear normal brands clothing so that they can support the local brands which does not give us right to make a statement regarding their character.

Furthermore, Adapting according to modern fashion provides another reason to support my position. This is mainly because young people like to go with trends because of following new trends they do become fashionable to adjust in following environment which does not tell us about their background or any culture they follow.

In conclusion, People cannot make judgment about someone's character or tradition just beacuse what they are wearing .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you disagree that clothing reliably reveals a person’s character or culture. The examples about comfortable nightwear and wealthy people choosing ordinary brands are relevant, and the point about young people following trends adds another reason. However, the response addresses the task only partially because these ideas are asserted rather than fully explained, and the cultural aspect receives little direct discussion. The conclusion repeats your position but does not draw the reasons together. The response is also 59 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop examples and address both culture and character. Explain each reason in more depth and add a specific example about clothing choices across cultures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs introduced by “The primary reason” and “Furthermore,” and a conclusion. This makes the overall line of argument easy to follow. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the second body paragraph moves quickly from modern fashion to fitting into an environment without clearly explaining the connection. The long first body paragraph also combines two separate points—comfort and wealthy people’s clothing choices—so the progression is less clear. Use separate, focused paragraphs for distinct reasons, and make the relationship between each example and your main claim explicit. Check that pronouns such as “they” and “which” clearly refer to the intended people or ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “fashion sense,” “clothing,” “wealth,” “local brands,” and “modern fashion,” and the reader can generally understand your argument. There are noticeable problems with word choice, collocation, word forms, and spelling, which make some phrases awkward—for example, “wealthy personality people,” “following environment,” and “make a statement regarding their character.” “Beacuse” is also misspelled, and “judgemental” is not the most precise way to describe making assumptions about someone. Aim for natural, accurate combinations such as “wealthy people,” “social environment,” and “draw conclusions about someone’s character.” Proofreading spelling and choosing more precise expressions would make your ideas clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, using structures such as “The primary reason why I disagree … is that” and “which does not mean…”. However, control is uneven, particularly in longer sentences, and errors sometimes make the relationships between ideas harder to follow. Examples include “people’s fashion sense determine,” “Everyone has right,” and “people does not want,” which show problems with subject–verb agreement and articles. The opening also ends abruptly after “because,” and punctuation spacing and capitalisation are inconsistent. Break long sentences into clearer units, check agreement and articles, and ensure each sentence is complete. These changes would improve accuracy while allowing you to retain a mix of sentence forms.
