Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that a person's character and personality can be judged by their clothing. According to me, a person can surely guess about anyone's culture and nature by looking at their choice of clothes, but sometimes it cannot always be true because these days, most people are following Western trends in apparel. In the whole world, every country has its own sense of clothing according to its culture and tradition, which represents its cultural values. They wear special colours and designs that depend on the occasions and festivals and tell about their past. For example, in India, brides wear heavy red coloured outfits with heavy jewellery on their special day; however, in Western communities, brides wear a white-coloured gown, which describes their culture and their cultural values. Furthermore, a person has specific colour choices that inform about their nature, such as people who love peace and calm by birth prefer light and pastel colours, whereas it is usually imagined that individuals who wear bright coloured clothes are the most excited about their life. However, youngsters are blindly following Western culture and the styles of their famous celebrities. Nowadays, superstars and well-known personalities have large fan followings, and their fans want to become like them, just because of this, they follows their fashion sense. This is because, they are losing their own choices, personality because they are coping someone's likes after influencing by the western fashion and their favourites celebraties. Due to this fake personality, people are not able to express their real nature, and personality, so it is hard difficult for a person to guess about someone's true feelings. In conclusion, I think that it is possible to get an idea about someone's culture through their clothes, but it is not always true because people are influenced by modern fashion and they want to keep their personality up-to-date and want to fit in the beauty standard of society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: clothing can offer clues about culture, but modern fashion means it cannot reliably reveal a person’s true character. You address both sides and support the cultural point with a relevant comparison between Indian brides’ red outfits and Western brides’ white gowns. The discussion of colour preferences also adds a second reason, while the influence of celebrities explains why clothing may not reflect someone’s own identity. These ideas are relevant, but some are asserted rather than carefully supported: for example, linking pastel colours with a peaceful nature is a broad generalisation, and the point about celebrity influence could use a specific example. Develop the reasoning behind these claims and distinguish cultural clues from assumptions about personality to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction states your qualified position, the body paragraphs present cultural clues and the limits of interpreting clothing, and the conclusion returns to your main view. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “Furthermore,” and “However” help signal the direction of the argument. At times, though, connections are mechanical or unclear. The long sentence beginning “Nowadays, superstars…” joins several ideas, and “just because of this” does not clearly identify the relationship between celebrity influence and copying fashion. The conclusion also introduces fitting beauty standards without developing that point earlier. Use clearer sentence boundaries, make references explicit, and ensure each paragraph develops one main idea in a logical sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “cultural values,” “tradition,” “pastel colours,” “fashion sense,” and “personality.” These choices allow you to discuss both cultural dress and contemporary trends, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “heavy red coloured outfits” and “fit in the beauty standard of society,” but some combinations are unnatural or imprecise. “Heavy” is not the best description of an outfit, and “beauty standard” would usually be plural or expressed differently. Spelling errors such as “celebraties” and “coping” (where you mean “copying”) also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “whereas,” and “which,” and your meaning is usually understandable. However, some grammatical errors remain, particularly in longer sentences. For example, “they follows” has subject–verb disagreement, while “they are coping someone's likes after influencing” has an unclear and faulty verb construction. The opening phrase “According to me” also needs a more suitable grammatical expression, and the sentence beginning “Nowadays, superstars…” contains several clauses that are not joined cleanly. There are occasional punctuation problems, including comma placement around subordinate clauses. Practise accurate agreement and verb patterns, and divide complex ideas into shorter sentences when needed.
