Student answer (Band 4.5)

In my opinion of this matter definitely yes , because as a people we have different culture and character especially about clothes to wear so its our choice we need to respect for others tribe .respect begins respect be happy for others and do what you feel good. but the generation now some people are lack of respect they discriminate other people culture especially when it comes for clothes . i dont know why people make that behavior . im a good person and have my own culture and character in life i have traveled in some country and i have seen a different kinds of culture im happy to see it because they are happy too looking to the tourist people smilling on them . I love travel and see the different culture in the world. people will people will past but the culture will stay forever .Many people are want to adopt the culture of others and i think this is not bad this is good ,but you need to do this whith your heart ,because this thing is a serious thing so do it good to yourself and to others .In my home country we have a different culture about the dress but in my hometown we dress normally and the people there is very respectful for other culture . So that is my opinion about people culture about their dress and character and always put our mind respect to others and to yourself .thank you all.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You clearly state agreement at the beginning (“definitely yes”) and return to respect for cultural differences in clothing, so the response is relevant to the question. However, the task asks whether clothing can reveal a person’s culture and character, while much of your discussion shifts to respecting other cultures, travelling, and adopting them. The link between clothing and what it reveals about an individual is not explained with specific reasons or examples. For instance, you mention seeing different cultures while travelling, but do not describe a particular style of dress or what it suggested about the wearer. Develop your position by explaining what clothing may indicate about cultural background and why it cannot reliably show someone’s character, then support those points with relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a recognisable overall direction: you express an opinion, give personal observations, and end by restating the importance of respect. However, the ideas are presented in one long paragraph and move abruptly between respect, discrimination, travel, cultural adoption, and your hometown. This makes the progression difficult to follow. Connections such as “So that is my opinion” signal a conclusion, but the preceding points have not been organised into clear supporting reasons. Repeated wording, including “people will people will,” also interrupts the flow. Use separate paragraphs for your position, each main reason and example, and your conclusion. Within them, connect each example directly to the claim it supports and use referencing clearly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a basic range of relevant vocabulary, including “culture,” “character,” “respect,” “discriminate,” and “adopt,” which helps communicate the general topic. There are also attempts to express personal experience, such as “I have traveled in some country.” However, vocabulary is repetitive, and several word choices or combinations are unclear or unnatural, for example “respect begins respect,” “looking to the tourist people,” and “past but the culture will stay forever.” Spelling and informal forms such as “whith,” “smilling,” and “dont” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range for discussing clothing and identity, and check spelling and collocations. For example, describe clothing as “traditional attire” or say it “may reflect cultural heritage,” rather than repeating “different culture.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response communicates a general opinion and includes some attempts to join ideas with clauses, such as “because you need to do this with your heart” and “when it comes for clothes.” However, sentence structures are mostly simple or run together, and frequent errors make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “as a people we have,” “some people are lack of respect,” and “the people there is very respectful,” where agreement and sentence construction are faulty. Punctuation is also inconsistent: several sentences begin without capitals, and full stops and commas are often missing or misplaced. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using because, although, and for example. Check subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries when editing.
