Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people around the world are still believe that people can easily identify an individual's religion, culture and character from the clothes. In this essay, I will explain why I strongly refuse this belief after discussing both views by giving appropriate examples.

To begin with, we are living in the century of migration and people across the world are leaving their native places in order to gain knowledge, money and growth. Judging people based on their choice of clothes in the era of immigration is not possible at all beacause humans are tend to follow the fashion trend where they are residing to blend themselves. Moreover, choice of clothes are more like individual's personal taste in fashion and not a trademark that shows his or her origin. For example, a young international female student from India will not wear her traditional clothes in the canadian college because wearing western peices help her to feel more inclusive in the western country rather than being an odd one in the class and area.

In contradiction, few people will stick to their traditional attires because it represents their strong believes in their religions and cultures. For them, following morden trends or wearing reveling clothes are not acceptable and they consider it as a sin. They dress up in the same way all arond the world and moving to different country will not change their ideology or choice of clothes. In this case, one can easily identify their religion, belief and culture by seeing them in those perticular dresses. For instance, islamic women tend to wear hijabs and burkhas even in western countries because those traditional attires are their identities and modern colthes are not encouraged in their religion. However, many women in islam also wear the modern dresses nowadays and one cannot judge them based upon their attires anymore.

In conclusion, choice of clothes should be consided as a personalised taste not their identity. I strongly believe that one cannot judge other just because they wear an attire which is mostly worn by certain community or people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you reject the idea that clothing reliably reveals a person’s culture or character, and you return to this view in the conclusion. You also acknowledge the opposing case, explaining that some people maintain religious dress and that this can make their background more recognisable. The examples of an Indian student and Muslim women are relevant and help address both sides. However, the discussion focuses more on culture and religion than on character, and the first example mainly illustrates adapting to local fashion rather than showing why character cannot be inferred. To develop the response further, address character directly and explain the limits of drawing conclusions from appearance, while qualifying broad claims about particular groups. This would make the support more consistently developed and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present contrasting views, and the conclusion restates your argument. The progression from migration and fashion to traditional religious clothing is easy to follow, and examples are placed in the relevant paragraphs. Some linking is effective, particularly the contrast introduced by “In contradiction” and the qualification beginning “However.” At times, though, the connections feel formulaic or the references are not fully clear. For example, “For them” follows a broad reference to “few people,” while “In this case” could specify exactly which people are being discussed. Use more precise references and make the relationship between each example and your main claim explicit to create smoother cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “traditional attires,” “personal taste in fashion,” “immigration,” and “identities,” which allows you to discuss clothing, culture, and religion. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “blend themselves” and “strong believes,” but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural and reduce precision. Spelling errors such as “beacause,” “morden,” “arond,” and “perticular” are noticeable, as are forms such as “peices” and “colthes.” Some expressions, including “in the century of migration” and “odd one in the class and area,” do not sound natural in context. Aim for accurate collocations and proofread spelling; this would make your vocabulary more flexible and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including reason clauses and contrastive sentences, as in “because humans are tend to follow the fashion trend” and “However, many women in islam also wear the modern dresses nowadays.” This gives the essay some structural variety, and the main ideas remain understandable. However, some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction persist. For example, “Many people … are still believe” should use either “still believe” or “are still believing”; “choice of clothes are” has a subject–verb agreement problem; and “humans are tend to follow” uses an incorrect verb pattern. Review these patterns and check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
