Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to let you know about the laptop that the company has provided me for the work purpose.
I work as a Social Media Marketing specialist at your company and the firm has given me a laptop to complete my revelant tasks at home.
I have been using it for the past two years but now I am facing some issues with it. One major problem that I am dealing with it is it's battery timings which run low very quickly. Moreover, it does not operate without connecting it to the power socket.
Due to these issues, I am unable to create content, handle social media platforms or work on online brand promotions. As a result of this, I am facing delays in my work and unable to meet the requirements and the deadlines on time.
Since the laptop is under the company's insurance policy, I would like you to give my laptop for repairment to the authorized company till then provide me an alternate option to carry out my tasks without any hinderence.
I look forward to your response in this matter.
Kind regards,
Arzoo

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose: you identify the laptop’s battery problem, explain that it prevents you from completing social-media work and meeting deadlines, and request repair plus a temporary alternative. These details make the impact on your work understandable. The request is relevant, although “an alternate option” could be made more specific—for example, asking for a loan laptop while yours is being repaired. The opening also says the company provided the equipment, but the relationship between you and the supplier is not entirely clear; clarify whether you are writing as an employee to your employer’s supplier or directly to the company that issued it. Overall, the task is fully addressed, with room to develop the requested action more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear sequence: you introduce the laptop, describe its faults, explain their effect on your work, and make a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish the background and problem from the consequences and proposed solution. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “As a result,” and “Since” guide the reader through the reasoning, and the closing is suitable for a formal letter. Some connections are slightly repetitive or could be more direct: “Due to these issues” and “As a result of this” occur close together, while the first two paragraphs repeat that the laptop was supplied for work. Streamlining that background and using a more precise transition into the request would make the progression feel more flexible and polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including relevant work terms such as “create content,” “social media platforms,” “brand promotions,” and “deadlines.” The reader can understand the equipment problem and its consequences. However, several word-choice, collocation, or spelling issues reduce precision: “battery timings” is not the natural phrase for how long a charge lasts, “repairment” is not the appropriate noun, and “hinderence” is misspelled. “For the work purpose” and “alternate option” are also less natural in this context. These attempts show some range, but more accurate everyday business collocations would strengthen the letter. Check spelling and choose conventional expressions when describing repairs, battery life, and temporary equipment.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and most of the meaning remains clear. You use subordinate clauses effectively in “Since the laptop is under the company’s insurance policy…” and “which run low very quickly.” Some grammatical errors remain. In “One major problem that I am dealing with it is…,” the relative clause already has an object, so “it” is unnecessary; the sentence also needs a clearer construction. “I would like you to give my laptop for repairment…” has an incomplete verb pattern: say “send my laptop for repair.” The sentence beginning “Since…” also joins several requests without clear punctuation or parallel structure. Revising these patterns and checking pronouns and sentence boundaries would improve accuracy while preserving your range.
