Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my disstatisfication regarding the network modem which I had bought from your company few months ago.
The main issue is that the modem stop works suddenly ,and after this I need to reboot the system, and connect it again. It causes me huge trouble because all my work related meetings helds online as I am working from home.
Recently I was giving a presentation to foreign companies investor, and my network was disconnected in between the meeting and it was so embarassing for me.Due to this, I missed my promotion because the investors thought that I had disrespected their time.
I want you to replace the modem and install the lastest version of Wifi Modem. Adding further, before installing the new system, please check the quality, and try to send a technician to my place so that he can inspect the environment and various others factors which may cause disruption in service in future.
I will expect positive and prompt response from you.
Yours faithfully,
Preet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The letter covers all three required points clearly. You identify the equipment as a network modem, explain that it stops working and needs rebooting, and show the effect on your work through the interrupted investor presentation and its professional consequences. Your request is also specific: you ask for a replacement, installation, and a technician’s inspection. These details make the purpose clear and the ideas well supported. To make the response even more complete, specify when you bought the modem or provide an order or warranty reference, and state whether you expect the replacement or inspection to be arranged within a particular timeframe. The account of missing a promotion is striking, but a brief clarification of how the connection failure led to that outcome would make the explanation more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear, appropriate sequence: purpose, technical problem, impact on work, requested action, and closing. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow each stage, and links such as “because,” “Due to this,” and “Adding further” show attempts to connect ideas. The progression is generally easy to understand, though some transitions feel formulaic or awkward, and the long request paragraph combines several actions without clearly prioritising them. Consider using more natural links and separating the replacement request from the technician’s inspection. Also check spacing after full stops and commas; for example, “for me.Due to this” makes the transition harder to read. Overall, the organisation is clear, with some room for more flexible cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use enough vocabulary to explain the complaint and its consequences, including “reboot,” “presentation,” “investors,” and “inspect the environment.” The language is relevant and the reader can understand the main message. However, several spelling and word-choice problems reduce precision, such as “disstatisfication,” “embarassing,” and “lastest.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “foreign companies investor” and “install the lastest version of Wifi Modem” do not express the intended meaning smoothly. Aim for accurate spelling and natural collocations, particularly in a formal complaint. For example, “express my dissatisfaction,” “the connection dropped,” and “the latest Wi-Fi modem” would sound clearer and more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a cause-and-effect explanation and a request clause beginning “so that he can inspect.” However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are noticeable. Examples include “the modem stop works” (use “the modem stops working”), “meetings helds online” (use “meetings are held online”), and “I was giving a presentation” where “I was giving a presentation” is possible but the surrounding account would be clearer with a consistent past-tense sequence. The sentence beginning “Recently” also needs clearer punctuation and clause structure. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and keeping tense consistent, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences. These corrections would make the letter more controlled and easier to read.
