Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
Hope you are doing well. From last four years I am using the desktop screen purchased from your company, as I am working from home.
Recently screen started flikkering after every 10 minutes and overheating, therfore I need to shut it of every half hour to make it cool. I am not sure what is wrong with it, consequently this will delay my work deadline and not able to perform accroding to the timeline. Which makes bad impression with the client and in organization.
As of now, I have bill of purchase made on jaunary 2022 and it comes under warranty as per company policy. It is 15' HP smart screen with LED. I would like to take a look into this matter as soon as possible.
I look forward for your response with reliable solution to this problem.
Yours faithfully,
prarthana

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the problem, explaining the impact on work, and requesting action. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it could be more professional. To improve, ensure you provide more detail regarding the specific nature of the 'flickering' or the exact deadline impact to fully flesh out the response. Because the length requirement was not met, the score is impacted, as the ideas remain somewhat brief and under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure, moving from the introduction to the problem, its impact, and finally the request. Paragraphing is used, though the paragraphs are quite short. Cohesive devices like 'therefore' and 'consequently' are used, but there are some awkward transitions, such as 'Which makes bad impression', which is a sentence fragment. The flow is generally clear, but the connection between ideas could be smoother. Improving the use of linking phrases and ensuring each sentence is complete would help elevate the coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'flikkering' (flickering), 'therfore' (therefore), 'accroding' (according), and 'jaunary' (January). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise terminology related to technical equipment and ensure accurate spelling. Using more varied vocabulary to describe the impact on your work, rather than repeating simple phrases, would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'From last four years I am using' (should be 'For the last four years, I have been using') and 'shut it of' (should be 'shut it off'). There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement, such as 'makes bad impression' (should be 'makes a bad impression'). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of verb tenses and articles.
