Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the problem is described (broken joints and CPU noise), the impact on work is explained (difficulty with Zoom meetings), and a request for action is made (a technician visit). However, the development of these points is somewhat limited by the language control. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal complaint, though the structure is slightly disjointed. To improve, ensure that the connection between the equipment failure and the specific work tasks is more clearly articulated to provide a more professional and persuasive tone.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the description of the problem and the impact on work is abrupt. There is a reliance on simple sentence structures, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'as a result'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the vague mention of 'that person' and 'the correct address'.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word forms, such as 'I brought' instead of 'I bought', 'is damage' instead of 'is damaged', and 'get fix' instead of 'get fixed'. These errors occasionally impede the flow of reading. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more accurate collocations and ensuring that word forms (nouns, verbs, adjectives) are used correctly in context. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message but does not demonstrate flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writing contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the message. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('I buy this top model'), missing articles ('as the covid cases'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('It also start making'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents the response from reaching a higher band. There is a limited range of complex structures, and attempts at them are often faulty. Focusing on basic sentence construction, specifically verb tense consistency and article usage, will significantly improve your accuracy.
