Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the equipment problem, explaining the impact on your work, and stating your desired outcome. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention the laptop does not support applications, providing a specific example of a software or task you cannot perform would have strengthened the response. The letter is clearly focused on the task, and the purpose is immediately apparent to the reader. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with slightly more detail to fully demonstrate your ability to communicate complex professional needs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate the different requirements of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Therefore', and 'as a result', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as the sentence fragment starting with 'As, I am unable to...' and the awkward phrasing 'and which results ,delay'. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that punctuation does not disrupt the logical progression of your ideas will help improve your score in this area.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, using terms like 'project related applications', 'deadlines', and 'reputation'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'a old version laptop' (should be 'an old version') and 'effecting the companies reputation' (should be 'affecting the company's reputation'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision. To improve, focus on using articles correctly and ensuring that verbs like 'affect' and 'effect' are used in the right context. The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the variety and sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with article usage ('a old version'), punctuation (unnecessary commas), and sentence fragments ('As, I am unable to...'). Some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'and which results ,delay in the project release'. To achieve a higher band, you should aim for more error-free sentences and ensure that complex structures are punctuated correctly. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the proper use of relative clauses will also help you demonstrate better control over your writing.
