Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr Kapoor,
I'm writing this letter to complain about the piece of electronic equipment, which I purchased from your shop caused numerous problems for me.
Actually, I have been using HP company laptop for the last one year for my office work. However, it is addressing difficulties related to charging, storage system and chaotic situations during office work from the last two months. Such as, battery required frequent charging, sometimes without any notification, laptop shouts down during meetings. Also, storage system is unwilling to save important data for a long time. All in all, these difficulties makes me unable to rejoin meetings and send important details to my colleagues and boss. Therefore, I feel frustrated and tired with this challenges.
I'm the manager of my company and I have to accomplish important targets and projects till certain time duration, due to plenty of difficulties dwindling my outcome and damage my professional image over time.
I would appreciate if you could send professional technician for the repairing or provide me better version of new laptop within a short time.
I hope you consider my request and help me to overcome the problems. I look forward to your prompt response in this matter.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best regards,
Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: the problem is described, the impact on work is explained, and a solution is requested. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal complaint. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the technical issues is slightly repetitive and lacks clarity in places, such as the phrase 'chaotic situations'. While the purpose is clear, the response could be improved by providing more specific details about the laptop model or the nature of the 'storage system' failure to fully satisfy the requirement for a clear description.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'Also', and 'Therefore', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, although the flow between the description of the problem and the impact on the user's professional life could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow, despite some minor awkwardness in sentence structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors. For example, 'shouts down' should be 'shuts down', and 'dwindling my outcome' is an unnatural collocation. Phrases like 'chaotic situations' are vague. While the student attempts to use more formal language suitable for a business context, the lack of precision in word choice prevents a higher score. The range is sufficient to convey the message, but it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that, while not impeding communication, are noticeable. Examples include 'laptop required frequent charging' (tense inconsistency), 'these difficulties makes me' (subject-verb agreement), and 'send professional technician' (missing article). Additionally, the opening sentence is a run-on sentence with a relative clause error. While the meaning is clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of basic grammatical rules.
