Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you in excellent health. I am writing this letter to kindly request you regarding the replacement of headphone given to me from the company to conduct online meetings. I am facing non-stop technical issues while using the equipment.
To begin with, as you are aware that I have been working from home since several months. Initially, the headphones were in perfect condition but later on, few glitches started showing up like audio malfunctioning , constant disturbance during the meetings and most of the times I am inaudible to the other person.
However, poor communication and technicality problems are the primary reasons due to which we have already lost few clients and if the problem remains the same It can have detrimental impact on the image of the company. Therefore, I humbly request you to consider my request and arrange me brand new headphones as soon as possible to avoid trouble and work being hampered on daily basis.
I would be looking forward to a positive response from the company to replace and provide a new headphones.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Sheena Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the technical issues with the headphones, explained the negative impact on your professional work, and clearly stated your desired outcome. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To improve, ensure that your opening is more direct; while the greeting is polite, the purpose of the letter could be stated more concisely. The development of ideas is sufficient, though providing a specific model number or purchase date would have added a layer of professional detail that strengthens the task response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure, with clear paragraphing that separates the problem, the impact, and the request. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'Therefore' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, ensure that pronouns are used accurately; in the final paragraph, 'a new headphones' is grammatically inconsistent with the singular 'a'. Overall, the organization is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'detrimental impact', 'malfunctioning', and 'humbly request'. There are some minor collocation errors, such as 'request you regarding' (should be 'request a replacement') and 'arrange me brand new headphones' (should be 'arrange for me to receive'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a need for more precise word choice. Expanding your range of formal business collocations would help you reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips. For instance, 'since several months' should be 'for several months', and 'a new headphones' is incorrect as 'headphones' is a plural noun. There are also minor punctuation issues, such as the space before the comma in 'same It'. Despite these errors, you maintain control over the sentence structure, and the errors do not cause confusion for the reader. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will improve your accuracy.
