Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You described the technical problem clearly, explained the negative impact on your professional productivity, and stated your desired resolution (repair, replacement, or refund). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands the urgency of the situation. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening and closing are fully integrated into the letter's flow and that all specific details, such as the product model or purchase date, are included to make the request more actionable.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'If' to connect your thoughts. However, the transition between the problem description and the impact on your work could be smoother. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words or phrases to connect sentences more fluidly, and ensure that the paragraphing remains consistent throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'equipment', 'connections', and 'warranty' correctly. There are some minor errors, such as 'purchacing' (purchasing) and 'price value' (which is slightly redundant). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it is somewhat limited in terms of sophistication. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. For example, instead of saying the screen 'get dark', you could use 'flickers' or 'becomes unresponsive'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'it becomes turn off' (it turns off), 'I am unable to see' (I am unable to see), and 'I would like to hearing' (I would like to hear). Additionally, there is a minor punctuation error in the closing ('Yours Faithfully' should be 'Yours faithfully'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and verb forms will significantly improve your accuracy.
