Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the internet router I recently purchased from your shop.
I bought a internet router on 15th April from your shop. The router (Model number -ZXC167) shuts down automatically on its own and I have to restart it every half an hour; However, the problem persists. The green lights on the router flickers indicating it is working fine but there is no internet connection.
This is affecting my overall performance at my company. I am not able to perform my daily task efficiently, or able to complete any projects given to me in timely manner. Moreover, attending any meetings have become a hustle as internet connection is not stable and disconnects very often. In addition, this has led to higher stress level and is interupting my goals in the comapny.
I kindly request you to send me a replacement of the router on an urgent basis as it has caused me a lot of trouble. If replacement is not possible I would like a full refund of the router, so I purchase it from a different shop.
I hope to get a response from you soon. I am also attaching the recipt of my purcahse.
Kind regards,
Mavi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the technical problem with the router, explained the negative impact on your professional tasks and meetings, and clearly stated your desired outcome (a replacement or refund). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between the technical failure and the specific consequences is even more explicit, though your current explanation is sufficient for a high score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the task. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'However' to link your ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, the transition between the problem description and the impact could be slightly more refined. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the complaint from the requested action, which helps the reader follow your argument easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for a formal complaint, such as 'dissatisfaction', 'persist', and 'urgent basis'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'recipt', 'purcahse', 'interupting', and 'comapny', which detract from the overall quality. While these do not impede communication, they prevent a higher score in this category. Focusing on proofreading your work for common spelling mistakes will help you achieve a higher band in future tasks.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'a internet router' (should be 'an') and 'attending any meetings have become a hustle' (should be 'has'). The punctuation error with the semicolon before 'However' is also noted. Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are clear and error-free, and your meaning is never obscured. Increasing your control over articles and subject-verb agreement will improve your accuracy.
