Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing great. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the equipments I have got from the company for my work at home.
Since I started working with Rogers as a Technical representative and I have been using desktop computer and headset daily. Unfortunately, I am experiencing some glitches in the software from past two days. My computer sometimes restart themseleves due to that I am losing my important data frequently.
Moreover, this constant issue heavily impacts my overall performance in the company. Major issue my task response drops because my call has disconnected in the middle of the conversation with client. Plus, my headphone wire has some cracks on it, which also become nuisance. This not only affect my work but also arise questions on company's reputation.
I want an urgent solution on this. According to me, please send someone from IT department to look into the software and make necessary updates or company could replace the equipment with newer version.
I hope you will look into this matter and find a possible solution at your earliest convinience. I waiting for your prompt response.
Yours Sincerely,
Kamal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the technical issues with the computer and headset, explained the negative impact on your work performance and client interactions, and clearly stated your desired outcome. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To improve, ensure you maintain a consistent focus on the specific equipment mentioned; while you mention a headset, the primary focus remains on the computer. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.0 performance in this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Unfortunately', and 'Plus' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring each paragraph focuses strictly on one aspect of the prompt. For instance, the mention of the headset wire in the second paragraph feels slightly disconnected from the software issues discussed earlier. Improving the flow between sentences would help elevate the score, but the overall progression is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'dissatisfaction', 'technical representative', and 'reputation'. There are some minor errors in word choice and form, such as using 'equipments' (which is an uncountable noun) and 'arise questions' (should be 'raise questions'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, fitting the criteria for a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'computer sometimes restart themseleves' (subject-verb agreement), 'from past two days' (preposition error), and 'I waiting for' (missing auxiliary verb). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Increasing your control over these basic structures will help you achieve a higher band score.
