Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir or madam,
I am writing this letter to inform you about the dough mixer of Sujata company, I recieved last month from your kitchen equipments and appliances Shop for my online food delievery work.
It's is been a month using this dough mixer which is creating heavy sound from the bottom of the machine. My first thoughts were that the equipment already has such noise in it while using it but after regular using it for a month, the noise kept changing its pitch from lower to higher volume.
While making heavy orders like whipping cream for the cakes and making dough for indian breads it create heavy sound and works very less efficiently. Moreover, I believe equipment is made of low quality material.
It would be my sincere request to you that if you can allow me to mail this equipment back to your shop. So you can re-examine it for any problems in it or send me a new equipment of same brand and model.I will surely wait for your response regarding this situation. Thank you so much.
Yours Sincerely,
Bramhjot Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the problem with the dough mixer, explain the impact on your food delivery work, and state your desired outcome (a repair or replacement). The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint letter. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details about the 'heavy sound' or the exact nature of the inefficiency to further develop your ideas, as some descriptions remain slightly general. However, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'While' to connect ideas. However, the paragraphing is somewhat limited; the body of the letter could be better structured by separating the description of the problem from the impact on your work. Additionally, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'whipping cream' and 're-examine'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'recieved' (received) and 'delievery' (delivery). The phrase 'works very less efficiently' is also non-standard; 'is significantly less efficient' would be more natural. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on correct collocations and checking for common spelling errors will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'It's is been a month' (It has been a month) and 'the equipment already has such noise in it' (the equipment already made such noise). Additionally, 'if you can allow me to mail this equipment back' is slightly awkward; a more direct request would be 'I would like to request that I be allowed to return...'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of verb tenses.
