Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this to complain about the WIFI router (D0XXX) which I purchase last month from your shop.
The main issue with this device is internet data speed, it randomly stops working anytime and when I tired to change the location multiple times to cope with this issue but there is not even miner progress noticed.
I live in a remote area and work from home, which makes essential to have a perfect Internet connection, currently I am using my mobile network which is very slow to attend virtual meetings.
I visited your local shop yesterday to discuss this issue. However, staff instructed me to complain on company website or to direct manager. It would be great for me if you can replace or repair this device as soon as possible.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I am looking forward for your positive reply.
Best regards,
Simranjeet Singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described the problem with the router, explained how it impacts your work, and clearly stated your desired outcome (repair or replacement). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details about the nature of the 'internet data speed' issue or the specific type of work you do, which would further develop your ideas and demonstrate a more comprehensive response to the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'which makes', which help the flow of information. To improve, try to use a wider range of linking words and transition phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly. For example, instead of starting sentences with 'I', you could vary the sentence structure to improve the overall cohesion of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'remote area', 'virtual meetings', and 'consideration'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'miner progress' (minor) and 'tired to change' (tried). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you are using the correct word forms in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'which I purchase' (purchased), 'when I tired to change' (when I tried to change), and 'which makes essential to have' (which makes it essential to have). There are also some punctuation issues, such as the missing comma after 'Dear Sir or Madam'. Increasing your control over verb tenses and sentence construction will help you achieve a higher band.
