Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express you my need for the equipment that i need for my work.
To begin with, I do work from home therefore I always need wifi to work smoothly. However, 2 days before my wifi requiter got broken as I was in hurry it fell down from the table. The company name was Talus and it was white in color. It was 2025 model.
Moving further, it has been an issue for me as I am not able to upload or send any files because of no wifi connection. It has been two days that all of my work is pending and the due dates for my projects are also really soon .
Furthermore, I would love if you could send me new recruiter as soon as possible with the same brand. Also, can you please deliver at my home or provide me any replacement for now if the new one will take time. So I can do my work easily.
Hope to hear back from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Sonia

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the problem is described, the impact on work is explained, and the desired action is stated. However, the tone is somewhat inconsistent, and the description of the item is slightly confusing (using 'wifi requiter' and 'recruiter' instead of 'router'). While the purpose is clear, the development of ideas is basic. To reach a higher band, you should provide more professional detail regarding the specific technical failure and the urgency of the project deadlines to demonstrate a more sophisticated approach to the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moving further', and 'Furthermore' to transition between ideas. While these are functional, they are somewhat mechanical and repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though the connection between the broken equipment and the request for a replacement could be smoother. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that each paragraph flows more naturally into the next without relying on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are significant issues with word choice and spelling. For instance, you use 'requiter' and 'recruiter' to refer to a 'router', which causes confusion. Additionally, 'express you my need' is an unnatural collocation; 'inform you of my problem' would be more appropriate. While you successfully communicate your meaning, the vocabulary is limited and contains errors that occasionally impede clarity. Focusing on industry-specific terminology and common collocations would significantly enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'I do work from home therefore I always need', which lacks proper punctuation, and 'It has been two days that all of my work is pending', which is awkward phrasing. You also have issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'deliver at my home' instead of 'to my home'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing.
