Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to complain about a problem with a piece of equipment that I purchased from your company and use for my work from home. Unfortunately, the equipment has recently developed a serious fault, which is significantly affecting to work.
The item in question is a laptop that I bought from your store approximately six months ago. Although it worked perfectly well initially, it has recently started shuuting down unexpectedly, when i am attending online meetings or running several importance applications. Moreover, I have already tried restarting it and installing the latest software updates, but the problem persists.
This issue is having considerable impact on my work. As I rely on my laptop for attending virtual meetings, preparing documents and communicating with colleagues, these unexpected shutdowns are causing my job and resulting in missed deadlines. On several occasions, I have also been unable to join impotant meetings on time, which is becoming increasingly frustrating and damaging my image.
I would appreciate it if ypu could arrange an urgent inspection and repair of the laptop. However, if the fault cannot be fixed promptly, I would prefer to receive a replacement of the same modal or alternatively, give me back a full refund.
I look forward to hearing from you and hope that this issue can resolved promptly.
Yours faithfully,
Hani Prajapati

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly described the problem (unexpected shutdowns), explained the impact on your work (missed deadlines and inability to attend meetings), and stated your desired resolution (repair, replacement, or refund). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and logically presented, meeting all the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is well-organized with a clear logical progression. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use cohesive devices such as 'Unfortunately', 'Moreover', and 'However' to link your ideas effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is coherent. There is a natural flow between the description of the problem and the subsequent request for action, ensuring the letter is easy to read and professional in its presentation.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use appropriate terms like 'developed a serious fault', 'unexpectedly', and 'persist'. However, there are some minor spelling errors such as 'shuuting', 'importance' (should be 'important'), 'impotant', 'ypu', and 'modal' (should be 'model'). While these do not impede communication, they prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you proofread for small slips in spelling and word choice to maintain a professional standard throughout your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. Most of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound. There are a few minor errors, such as 'affecting to work' (should be 'affecting my work'), 'causing my job' (which is slightly unnatural; 'jeopardizing my job' would be better), and 'can resolved' (should be 'can be resolved'). These errors are infrequent and do not cause confusion for the reader. Your control of punctuation and sentence structure is generally strong, supporting clear communication.
