Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction in regard to our office printer.

Firstly, We are working in hospitality sector. We have a lots of paper work to be done each day. We have been using the sam printer since 5 years now. We have to print alot documents each day. The problem that we have encounter with this printer is that it gets hang frequently. It is consuming our lot of time. As a result, guests has to wait for along period of time. I can see the frustration on the guest faces, while they are very busy. This is not good for our business, as guest can have negative impact towards our hotel.

Therefore, i request you to contact technicians to fix it or to get the new printer as soon as possible. This helps to run our everyday work smoothly without any hinderance.

I am looking forward to hear back from you.

Kind regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all three bullet points from the prompt: you describe the problem with the equipment, explain how it affects your work, and state what you want the company to do. However, there are some contradictions and inaccuracies in the role assumed. The prompt states 'You work at home', but your letter states 'We are working in hospitality sector' and mentions a hotel and guests waiting. This is a slight misinterpretation of the persona context, placing you in a business rather than a home setting. Nonetheless, the message is communicated clearly and the requirements of the task are adequately addressed. For a higher score, the context should align more precisely with the prompt parameters.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a recognizable business letter format with an appropriate opening and sign-off. Paragraphing is attempted to separate the introduction, body details, and conclusion, though paragraphs are somewhat brief and choppy. Cohesive devices are basic and repetitive, such as 'Firstly' and 'Therefore'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for instance using 'the sam printer since 5 years now' where referencing and time markers are awkward. The logical progression is maintained overall because the narrative of the problem, its impact, and the requested solution flows naturally from beginning to end, but cohesion remains mechanical rather than flexible.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for a basic business complaint, but it is somewhat limited and repetitive. Examples include basic terms like 'paper work', 'lots of', and 'fix it'. There are notable lexical errors and unnatural word choices, such as 'gets hang frequently' (should be 'hangs frequently' or 'freezes'), 'a lots of document each day' (should be 'a lot of documents'), and 'negative impact towards our hotel' (preposition error). While meaning is generally clear despite these slips, the range of vocabulary lacks flexibility and precision, restricting the score to the mid-band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are several noticeable grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('guests has to wait' instead of 'guests have to wait'), tense usage problems ('We have been using the sam printer since 5 years now' instead of 'for 5 years'), and punctuation/capitalization errors ('Firstly, We', 'i request'). Additionally, sentence structures are sometimes fragmented or awkward, like 'This helps to run our everyday work smoothly' (should be 'This will help run'). These errors occasionally distract the reader.
