Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the task instructions. You clearly described the problem with the office chair, explaining that it caused you to develop neck pain. You also explained how this negatively affected your work by hindering your focus and preventing you from attending important meetings. Finally, you stated what you want the company to do, which is to replace the chair due to a suspected manufacturing defect. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint, starting with 'Dear Sir' and maintaining a clear purpose throughout. Although some ideas could be slightly more expanded to reach the higher bands, the overall fulfillment of the task is solid, leading to a Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear sequence of ideas, moving logically from the introduction of the problem to its impact and finally to the requested solution. Paragraphing is used to separate different aspects of the letter, such as the problem, the consequences, and the demand for a replacement. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, sentences like 'Which i bought from your shop' are fragmented, and transition words between ideas are occasionally missing or repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'During that time'. Additionally, referencing is not always completely clear. Therefore, a score of 6.0 is appropriate.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your meaning regarding the faulty chair and your physical discomfort. You attempt some less common vocabulary such as 'orthopaedic', 'advertisement', and 'manufacturing defect'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'disppointment', 'orthopeadic', 'sellsman', 'bought' instead of 'buy', and 'manufacture default' instead of 'manufacturing defect'. These lexical errors show a lack of precision, though they do not severely impede communication. This performance aligns well with the Band 5.5 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors in punctuation, capitalization, and verb tenses throughout the text. For instance, 'Which i bought from your shop' is a sentence fragment starting with a lowercase 'i', and phrases like 'Afet started using it ihave gradually develop neck pain' contain tense and spelling errors ('develop' should be 'developed'). Other issues include missing articles and awkward phrasing such as 'send replaced chair over my location'. While communication is generally maintained, the frequency of basic and complex structural errors keeps the score at a Band 5.5.
