Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

Myself Mark Elison from the Finance department at Oracle Corporation. This letter is to inform about the Desktop setup which I am currently using for daily work. As you know , how important is dual monitor setup for the work which involves going through Excel spreadsheet , Microsoft teams, SAP and other leagacy software which are being used side by side in routine work environment.

Main purpose of this email is to address the raw processing power of CPU which requires this software to run seemleesly together with the RAM configuration it requires to operate this heavy applications in the background. Currently, I'm using Intel 10th generation CPU with 16 gigabytes of RAM. This was enough to use till last year as most of our system operations were being run on the cloud.

But as we switched to the locally host servers for the privacy purpose of some of our clients. It needs significantly more processing power from CPU to run the work efficiently. It gives glitches to display on monitor as it has to drive 2 dual 4k display output along with processing software apps.

I would like to request an upgrade for 32 gigabytes of RAM and fast CPU config for smooth operation.

Best Regards

Mark

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the task instructions. You clearly described the problem with the equipment, mentioning the glitches on the monitor caused by driving two 4K displays along with heavy software. You explained how this affects your work by noting the shift to locally hosted servers and the need for high processing power to run programs like Excel, Teams, and SAP. Finally, you explicitly stated what you want the company to do by requesting an upgrade to 32 gigabytes of RAM and a faster CPU configuration. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter, though the opening greeting contains minor informality. Overall, the task is addressed well, matching the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter maintains a clear overall progression from introducing the equipment to describing the technical issue and finally stating the requested action. Paragraphing is used to separate ideas, such as grouping the software background context in the first paragraph and the hardware specifics in the second and third paragraphs. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in abrupt sentence boundaries and fragments like 'As you know , how important is dual monitor setup' and 'For the privacy purpose of some of our clients. It needs significantly more...'. Referencing and linking between sentences can be smoother to achieve a higher band. Cohesion is adequate for a Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a technical workplace setting, using terms such as 'processing power', 'RAM configuration', 'dual 4k display output', and 'cloud'. There are, however, several lexical and spelling inaccuracies that prevent a higher score, including 'leagacy' (legacy), 'seemleesly' (seamlessly), and the misuse of 'locally host servers' instead of 'locally hosted servers'. Additionally, phrases like 'raw processing power of CPU which requires this software to run seemleesly' show awkward word choice and collocation. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your message, fitting the criteria for a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and subordinate structures, such as 'which involves going through Excel spreadsheet...'. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. There are sentence fragments and punctuation errors, such as starting a sentence with 'But as we switched to the locally host servers...' followed immediately by 'It needs significantly more...'. Other errors include subject-verb agreement issues and awkward phrasing in 'This was enough to use till last year'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to restrict your score to Band 5.5.
