You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter regarding a faulty chair I bought from your establishment.

Last week I bought an egornomic chair from your company to use at my apartment because I work remotely but upon getting it there was a problem. The major detail is that the chair is that I ordered for is not rotating, but this one is static.

As a remote worker, spining and facing three of my monitors simultaneously makes me work efficiently. I cannot work with a static equipment such as this because it would be a hindrance to my job which requires speed in doing tasks.

Nevertheless, I would be needing a refund for chair or a replacement for it. I would like to trust your judgement on this and would not be expecting any dissapointment. Also, if you can do this within the weekend would work best for me.

I hope this letter finds you for your consideration.

Kind regards,

Roland

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the prompt. You clearly described the issue with the faulty ergonomic chair, specifically explaining that it is static and does not rotate. Furthermore, you explained how this negatively impacts your remote work by hindering your efficiency across multiple monitors. Finally, you explicitly stated what you want the company to do by requesting either a refund or a replacement within the weekend. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint letter, and all requirements of the task have been met satisfactorily.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

Your letter is structured with a logical flow, beginning with the purpose of the letter, followed by the description of the problem, the impact on your work, and your desired resolution. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices are generally well-managed, using words like 'Nevertheless' and 'Also' to connect sentences, although some transitions could be smoother. Referencing is mostly clear, though phrases like 'a refund for chair' contain a missing article that slightly disrupts cohesion. Overall, the organisation is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a formal complaint letter, including terms like 'remote worker', 'simultaneously', and 'efficiency'. However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'egornomic' instead of 'ergonomic', 'spining' instead of 'spinning', and 'dissapointment' instead of 'disappointment'. Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as referring to the chair as 'static equipment'. Despite these minor vocabulary and spelling inaccuracies, your meaning remains clear throughout the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'As a remote worker, spining and facing three of my monitors simultaneously makes me work efficiently.' There are some minor grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'the chair is that I ordered for is not rotating' and 'I would be needing a refund for chair'. Punctuation is generally fine, and these minor structural errors rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to easily understand your message.
