Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task instructions. The problem is clearly described, including the blinking screen, slowness, and poor battery health. The impact on work is explained through difficulties working off-site and the need to constantly restart the machine. Finally, the required actions—an inspection or a replacement—are explicitly stated. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint letter. The ideas are relevant and fully developed, satisfying the requirements for Band 6.5 to 7.0. However, the development is slightly repetitive in the third paragraph regarding the battery and charging issues, keeping it firmly at a Band 6.0 level for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose established in the opening sentence. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, the problem details, the impact on work, and the requested actions, although some paragraphs are quite short. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'If' are used to signal logical relationships, though referencing and transitions can be a bit mechanical ('with the battery issue I always take...'). Logical progression is occasionally disrupted by overlapping ideas between the second and third paragraphs. Overall, the organization is sufficient for a Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The candidate demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully communicating everyday technical problems (e.g., 'blinking', 'battery health', 'restart'). However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'purchase' instead of 'purchased', 'it got hang' instead of 'it freezes' or 'it crashes', and 'how do inspection' instead of 'to conduct an inspection'. Spelling errors such as 'sincerly' and minor issues with word forms prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the message, fitting the Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional clauses ('If the problem is not solved so I would ask...') and relative structures. However, there is a high frequency of grammatical errors, including tense inconsistencies ('that I purchase' instead of 'purchased'), missing punctuation, run-on sentences ('now it has a serious problems it start blinking'), and incorrect prepositions or articles. Punctuation errors, such as missing capital letters at the start of sentences ('now it has', 'Sometime Its screen'), are noticeable. While communication is not severely impeded, the density of errors keeps the performance at a Band 5.5.
