Write a letter to the shop or company which supplied the equipment. In your letter

- say what you want the shop or company to do
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to bring to your notice that last month, I bought a HP dual printer from your shop having bill number 3456.
I printed the documents usually for my office purpose, but from yesterday, it makes an annoying voice and did not print properly. Moreover, the paper is jamming while doing the printing.
Tomorrow is a crucial meeting in my office and I have to submit a printed report. If I would not able to submit the report, not only does it affects my job but also it affects the reputation of the company. I already wasted a significant amount of time in finding the problem, but I could not find anything.
I would really appreciate if the printer could be replace by the evening or a techician could be send at my place to ratify the defect in the printer. My address is already updated in your system.
I hope my complaint would be consider without any delay.
Yours sincerely,
Navdeep Kahlon

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response covers all three bullet points from the prompt effectively. You clearly described the problem with the HP dual printer, stating that 'it makes an annoying voice and did not print properly' alongside paper jamming. You explained the impact on your work by mentioning the crucial meeting tomorrow and the potential damage to your job and company reputation. Finally, you outlined what you want the company to do, requesting either a replacement printer by the evening or a technician to be sent. The tone is appropriately formal for a business letter, fulfilling the functional requirements of General Training Task 1 well.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Ideas are grouped sensibly into paragraphs, moving smoothly from the purpose of the letter to the description of the problem, the consequences for your work, and your desired resolution. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'Moreover' and 'not only does it affects my job', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, maintaining an easy-to-follow structure typical of formal correspondence.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message to the shop. You attempt some less common items such as 'crucial meeting', 'significant amount of time', and 'ratify the defect', although there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice or collocation, such as 'annoying voice' (instead of 'noise') and 'ratify' (instead of 'rectify' or 'repair'). Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication, placing your lexical performance comfortably within the band 6 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('If I would not able to submit the report...'). However, there are several noticeable grammatical errors, including tense shifts ('did not print properly' mixing with present tense) and modal/conditional mistakes ('If I would not able' instead of 'If I am not able', and 'could be replace' instead of 'could be replaced'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical inaccuracies occur with enough frequency to prevent a higher band score, although they rarely impede overall communication.
