Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to have your attention to my problem which is occured because of the computer that i bought recently from your store.
My work is from home and i use computers on daily basis. Yesterday I was doind my work and suddenly my computer had stopped working. I guess the mother board of the computer is damaged and computer screen is completely blanked.
Because of this event, I could not submit my presentation to the boss. And my commitment was broken to the boss and foreign client as well.
I believe,I have an insurance of the computer which I bought last week with the purchase of it. And request you that, if you could replace my computer with the new piece or give me a refund, whatever is convinient to you.
Thank you for your understanding in advance and looking forward to hear a best answer from you.
Best wishes,
Rushil Soni.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You successfully covered all parts of the letter prompt. You described the problem clearly by stating that the computer stopped working suddenly with a blank screen and a suspected damaged motherboard. You explained how this affected your work by mentioning that you could not submit your presentation to your boss and broke commitments to both your boss and a foreign client. Finally, you stated what you wanted the company to do, requesting either a replacement or a refund under your insurance. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint letter, and all bullet points are fully addressed, earning a solid band score for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter is organised into clear paragraphs with an appropriate opening and sign-off. The progression of ideas is logical, moving smoothly from the purpose of the letter and the description of the problem to the consequences on your work and your final request. However, cohesive devices are somewhat basic, and referencing could be improved in places. For instance, sentences like "Because of this event, I could not submit..." are understandable, but transitions could be woven more fluidly. Paragraphing is used correctly to separate distinct ideas, though some paragraphs are quite brief. Overall, the logical flow is clear throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You used an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, successfully communicating your meaning. You attempted some less common items such as "commitment" and "insurance," which fit the context well. However, there are a few lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as writing "occured" instead of "occurred," "doind" instead of "doing," and asking to "hear a best answer" instead of "hearing from you soon" or "a prompt reply." These minor errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band score due to lack of flexibility and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrated a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ("if you could replace... or give me a refund, whatever is convinient to you"). However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout the text, including spelling mistakes ("occured", "convinient"), incorrect verb tenses ("Yesterday I was doind"), and unnecessary commas (e.g., "I believe,I have"). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to show limited control over complex grammar, placing your performance firmly in the band 6 category.
