Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction regarding the product (HP monitor - OLED 25691, Invoice number: Z[redacted phone]) that I purchased from your online platform.
I am a full time employee of Infosys company and doing work from home three days in a week. To execute my daily task, I usually need an extended screen with my laptop. To satisfy this requirement, one of the employees from IT department recommended your website, and I bought it online. However, for one week, I have been annoyed with product's performance. Screen keeps flickering while I am working. I thought, it might be a problem of cord cable, so I replaced it, still screen is not stable that made my conclusion that problem is probably with the monitor itself.
Unfortunately, this prevents me to do some essential tasks of my job. I work work in designing software. To work on that software, I must require additional screen. As I couldn't use the monitor that ultimately resists me to use designing software. So, not only I feel dissatisfied with this product but my project is getting delayed as I am not able use may daily Software.
Fortuitously, I also purchased 2 years replacement policy (Policy number: IX-2423) which may save me from my financial lost. I would like to ask you what actions should be performed to use this policy in order to replace this product with new article. I hope shipping charge will not be on me.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Vishal Vekariya

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The candidate successfully covers all parts of the letter prompt. The purpose of the communication is clear right from the start, and specific product details such as the model and invoice number are provided. The student describes the technical issue ('Screen keeps flickering'), explains the impact on their work ('this prevents me to do some essential tasks... project is getting delayed'), and clearly states the desired action regarding the 2-year replacement policy. The tone is appropriate for a formal business complaint, and all bullet points from the prompt are fully addressed with relevant, well-developed supporting ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end, following standard formal letter conventions. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct ideas, such as introducing the problem, explaining the workplace impact, and requesting a replacement. Cohesive devices are generally used appropriately (e.g., 'However', 'So, not only I feel...'), though some transitions are a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Fortuitously, I also purchased'. Overall, the progression of ideas is smooth and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating business and technical terms such as 'formally express my dissatisfaction', 'full time employee', and 'replacement policy'. Less common phrases are attempted with general success, although there are minor word choice and collocation slips, such as 'with new article' instead of 'with a new item' or 'replacement', and 'financial lost' instead of 'financial loss'. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary choices do not impede the clear communication of the message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional or causal explanations ('As I couldn't use the monitor that ultimately resists me to use designing software'). Control over grammar is reasonably good, though there are several noticeable errors, such as article omissions and prepositions ('doing work from home three days in a week', 'problem of cord cable', 'prevents me to do' instead of 'prevents me from doing'), as well as word form confusion ('resists me' instead of 'prevents me'). However, these errors do not impede overall communication.
