Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear sir,
hope you are doing well . I'm NIaz . I'm working on your company as a deginer and a editor. For todays work i have some problems with the equipment you provide me for working from home.
It's all about the tape recorder you provide me for the footages for the video edit of the company presentation . The tape quality is very low that's why the video quality get lower . I think it's not good enough for the presentation . Because whenever i try to edit the video footages the final video quality get more worst then before . That's why its looks so cheap . I think it can be good and more effective if you give me a new video tape with high quality performance . then the overall output can make me satisfied and also make the final video more richer look .
I therefore pray you consider my problem.
yours sincere,
niaz

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main parts of the prompt by describing the problem with the equipment, mentioning its effect on the work, and stating what is required. However, the treatment of these points is limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention that 'the video quality get lower' lacks specific details regarding the exact nature of the malfunction. Furthermore, the role described in the opening is inconsistent with the context, as you mention working 'on your company as a deginer and a editor' rather than outlining your actual workplace situation clearly. The tone is also somewhat informal and not entirely suited to a business letter. To move to a higher level, you should expand on your ideas more fully, ensure consistency in your professional context, and maintain an appropriate formal tone throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation in the letter, as it moves from the greeting to the problem and then to the requested action. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the information is presented in a series of short, choppy sentences rather than a flowing narrative. Paragraphing is not used effectively; the main body is grouped together without proper separation between ideas. Furthermore, cohesive devices are minimal and repetitive, relying heavily on basic connectors like 'that's why' and 'Because'. To improve, you should group your ideas into logical paragraphs and use a wider variety of cohesive links to guide the reader smoothly through your arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'deginer' instead of designer, 'footages' instead of footage, and 'worst' instead of worse. Additionally, phrases like 'the overall output can make me satisfied' are awkward and unnatural for formal business correspondence. These lexical slips and spelling errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, you need to use a wider range of precise vocabulary, avoid spelling errors, and apply appropriate collocations suitable for a workplace communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences joined by basic conjunctions. When you attempt more complex constructions, they are often faulty, such as in the sentence 'Because whenever i try to edit the video footages the final video quality get more worst then before.' There are frequent grammatical errors involving verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'the video quality get lower' and 'you provide me'. Punctuation and capitalization errors are also present, including lowercase 'i'. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict your score. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring correct verb forms, and reducing grammatical mistakes.
