Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt in a clear and appropriate tone. The letter begins by describing the problem with the laptop, specifically that it is working slowly, freezing frequently, and failing to restart properly. It then clearly explains how this negatively impacts the writer's work by causing missed deadlines and difficulty communicating with colleagues. Finally, the letter clearly states what action is required from the company, requesting a repair, replacement, or refund. All three bullet points are fully covered, and the writer maintains a consistent formal tone throughout the letter, presenting a clear position from the beginning to the end.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose, moving smoothly from the initial statement of dissatisfaction to the specific problem, its impact, and the desired resolution. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas effectively, such as 'To begin with', 'Reagrding the impact', and 'As for result'. Although some transitional phrases contain minor spelling inaccuracies, the overall arrangement remains coherent and easy to follow, ensuring the reader can navigate the letter without confusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting to use formal language suited to a complaint letter, such as 'formally express', 'dissatisfication', and 'productivity'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'euipment' instead of equipment, 'problen', 'Reagrding', 'mintues', and 'appriciate'. Additionally, phrases like 'As for result' show a slight lack of precision in collocation. These lexical errors and slips in spelling do not impede communication, but they prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating the ability to construct multi-clause sentences, such as 'Although I have tried number of times to restart thhis device, the problem is still continue.' There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('a' number of times), incorrect verb forms ('is still continue', 'freeze' instead of freezes), and minor punctuation issues. While these errors occur regularly, the sentence structures remain mostly clear and the mistakes rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to understand the intended message without undue difficulty.
