Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express dissatisfaction with the wifi that your company abc network installed last month in my unit.
Because wifi is significantly unstable during peak working hours, it has become challenging to work from home. Although the connection is quiet stable during evening and night hours, the internet speed is slow, and not upto the speed which is mentioned in the provider contract.
This issues has significantly affected my work. For instance, yesterday I was in a meeting with a CEO of my company, and suddenly my call got dropped because of some network issues. Additionally, next day, I had to reschedule that meeting in the office, which required me to travel 400 kms despite being a remote employee.
It would be really appreciated, if either the wifi gets fixed or I get a refund for this month, and allow me to break the contract without having any extra panalties.
Looking forward to your response in this regard.
Yours faithfully,
Jay

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly describe the problem by noting that the wifi is unstable during peak hours, explain the impact on your work with the specific example of a dropped meeting with the CEO, and state your desired resolution, which includes a refund and contract cancellation without penalties. Your position and purpose are clear throughout the letter. To reach a higher band, the discussion of how the problem affects your work could have been expanded further with additional details or broader consequences, rather than relying on a single extended anecdote, ensuring all parts are equally and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression from the opening statement to the final request. You make effective use of paragraphs, separating the introduction, the problem description, the personal impact, and the call to action into distinct sections. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'For instance', and 'Additionally' are used to link your ideas, although there is a slight tendency for referencing to feel a bit mechanical in places. To achieve a higher score, you could employ a wider variety of more sophisticated cohesive links and ensure smoother transitions between sentences to make the overall flow completely seamless and natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'dissatisfaction', 'significantly unstable', and 'remote employee'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as writing 'quiet stable' instead of 'quite stable', 'upto' instead of 'up to', 'This issues' instead of 'These issues', and 'panalties' instead of 'penalties'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary score from rising. To improve your lexical score, you need to use a broader range of precise vocabulary with greater awareness of collocations and pay closer attention to standard spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You display a satisfactory mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as using concessive clauses with 'Although' and conditional structures. There are several error-free sentences, demonstrating good control over basic grammar. However, a few persistent errors remain, such as the incorrect article usage in 'with a CEO' instead of 'with the CEO', and punctuation issues like the unnecessary comma in 'It would be really appreciated, if either...'. These minor inaccuracies mean your writing sits comfortably at this level. To move higher, you should increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and refine your control over punctuation and prepositions inside grammatical patterns.
