Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to complain about the keypad. I got delivered last year by the company since I work from home the model number 2184.
The main problem with the keyboard is that some keys are not functioning well. I can hardly type a number or words. Also, I would like to highlight that some of the letters are just detached from the pad. I tried to fix it with the regular labour work but things are getting even worse.
Although I try to match the deadlines for my presentation but without any qualms the constant delays left me disappointed. Additionally, I cannot focus on ideas and its affecting my holistic work schedule.
Undeniably, it's a guaranteed product. I want a qualified technician to check for the major problem or I would like to replace it with the new system as soon as possible.
I hope for the prompt action.
Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three required points: you identify the faulty keyboard, explain that typing difficulties and delays affect presentations and your work schedule, and request a technician or replacement. The purpose is clear and the complaint is relevant. Some details, however, are less fully explained: “I can hardly type a number or words” does not specify how often the keys fail, and the effect on your work could be illustrated more precisely. The request would also be clearer if you stated which remedy you prefer and gave a reasonable timeframe. The response already covers the task effectively overall; developing these details and maintaining a consistently formal tone would make it more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible sequence: it introduces the complaint, describes the fault, explains its impact, and makes a request. Separate paragraphs help the reader identify these stages, and linking expressions such as “Also” and “Additionally” show attempts to connect points. Some connections are less clear or sound mechanical, particularly “Although I try to match the deadlines for my presentation but…”; the contrast is difficult to follow. The opening sentence also places the delivery and model details awkwardly, interrupting the flow. Use clearer transitions and make each paragraph develop one point in a straightforward order. A conventional closing and a clear sign-off would also give the letter a more complete structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and its consequences, including “deadlines,” “constant delays,” and “replace.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for this context, which limits precision: “keypad” and “keyboard” are used inconsistently, “regular labour work” does not clearly describe your repair attempt, and “holistic work schedule” is an awkward phrase. “Without any qualms” also does not express the intended effect of the delays. Prefer direct, natural wording for a formal complaint, such as describing keys that are “not responding” and saying the problem is disrupting your work. More consistent and accurate collocations would make your meaning easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “Although” and “since,” but control is uneven. For example, “I got delivered last year by the company since I work from home the model number 2184” has an unclear sentence structure, and “Although I try to match the deadlines … but” combines two contrasting constructions incorrectly. There are also errors in agreement and reference in “its affecting my holistic work schedule,” as well as missing or misplaced punctuation that makes some sentences harder to follow. These issues sometimes obscure relationships between ideas, although the overall message remains understandable. Build accuracy by using shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses carefully and check pronouns and punctuation.
