Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to request you to supply a new computer keyboard to my location.
First of all, I want to inform you that, my keyboard is suddenly stop working from two days. I think that, there is a issue in button of keyboards because when I press any of key button it takes about two minutes to type an alphabet and now its fail to type any word.
Moreover, as you know that I am a freelancer, it is affecting my online work and my clients as well. Additionally, my online students will also get angry with me if I will not complete their assignments on time.
Last but not least, I want a favor from your side please send me a new handy keyboard as early as possible because I do not want to effect my only source of earning. So, deliver me a new equipment on an urgent basis.
I hope you will understand my situation and would deliver me a new keyboard early.
I look forward to your response.
Kind Regards,
Nosheen

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you explain that the keyboard has stopped working, describe the delay when pressing keys, and request a replacement to be sent urgently. The effect on your work is also made relevant through your freelance work and online students. This gives the reader a clear understanding of your situation and what action you expect. To make the request more fully developed, specify practical details such as the keyboard’s model, purchase date, or whether you would accept a repair if a replacement is unavailable. The impact could also be explained more precisely—for example, how the malfunction delays particular tasks or affects deadlines. Overall, the purpose and key ideas are clear and supported, although some details remain general.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible progression: you introduce the problem, explain its effect on your work, and then state the action you want. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and the closing is appropriate. Connectors such as “Moreover” and “Additionally” make the relationship between the problem and its consequences clear. However, several transitions—“First of all,” “Last but not least,” and “Moreover”—feel formulaic for a formal complaint letter, and the repeated request for a new keyboard in the final paragraphs makes the ending less efficient. Some references, such as “it” in “it is affecting my online work,” could be more explicit. More natural transitions and tighter linking between the problem, impact, and requested remedy would strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the situation, including “freelancer,” “assignments,” “source of earning,” and “urgent basis.” The reader can understand the main problem and the remedy you want. However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation errors make the letter sound unnatural: “a new handy keyboard,” “button of keyboards,” and “effect my only source of earning.” “Equipment” is also less precise than “keyboard” in the final request. Aim for standard phrases used in formal service correspondence, such as “replacement keyboard,” “keys,” and “affect my income.” Greater precision and more natural combinations would make your message clearer and more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a conditional sentence about your students and a reason introduced by “because.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but errors occur across verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “my keyboard is suddenly stop working from two days” needs a corrected verb form and time expression, while “there is a issue” has an article error. In “if I will not complete,” the conditional clause requires a different tense pattern, and “it takes about two minutes … and now its fail” shifts awkwardly between forms. Practise accurate past and present forms, articles, and conditional structures, then proofread each sentence for agreement and punctuation.
