Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are well. I am writing this letter to state the problem I am facing with laptop I use for work. I work remotely, hence all my data i work with is saved within the drive assigned by my orgnaziation. But since last 3-4 days my processor runs longer than usual and make whirring sound which I noticed is affecting the software I work with. The software I use is desktop and online based and hence it is taking too much space in drive which is causing it to automatically shutdown the application due to this project I am working is often forced shut without saving it prior.
When I purchased the laptop; front desk at store gave me a coupon stating 3 years warrenty both hardware and softyware that comes with it. So, would it be advisable by you if someone can take a look when I go to the store and pay extra to even enlarge the space of drive?
Plase let me know urgently as I am working on very significant project and would like to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
Respectfully,
Morgan G.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three required points: it describes the laptop’s unusually long-running processor and whirring noise, explains that applications shut down and work may be lost, and asks the company to inspect the device and advise about increasing storage. The purpose is clear and the tone is appropriately formal. However, the request is not fully precise: “would it be advisable by you if someone can take a look” leaves unclear whether you are asking for a repair under the warranty, a diagnostic appointment, or a paid upgrade. The explanation also links the drive’s capacity to the processor noise without making the cause clear. State the specific action you expect and separate the symptoms from your concern about storage to develop the request more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The information follows a generally sensible order: you introduce the laptop problem, describe its effect on your work, mention the warranty, and make a request. Linking expressions such as “But,” “hence,” and “So” help show relationships between ideas. At times, however, the connections are difficult to follow. The long sentence beginning “But since last 3-4 days” combines the processor noise, software, drive space, and application shutdown, so the cause-and-effect sequence is unclear. The warranty and storage-upgrade question also appear together without a clear transition. Use separate paragraphs for the problem and its impact, then the requested remedy, and make each sentence focus on one main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “remotely,” “whirring sound,” “warranty,” and “application,” and the reader can understand the main problem. However, several word choices and spelling errors reduce precision and naturalness: “state the problem” is less suitable than “explain the problem,” “enlarge the space of drive” is awkward, and “softyware,” “warrenty,” and “orgnaziation” are misspelled. “Processor runs longer” is also unclear because it does not specify what the processor is doing. Aim for accurate collocations such as “the fan is making a whirring noise,” “the drive is running out of space,” and “the application closes unexpectedly.” Proofreading would help make your adequate range more reliable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple and more complex sentence forms, such as the explanation beginning “since all my data…” and the sentence describing the warranty. The main meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors make parts of the message less clear. For example, “with laptop I use” needs an article (“with the laptop”), “my processor runs longer than usual and make” has a subject–verb agreement error (“makes”), and “due to this project I am working is often forced shut” has an incomplete grammatical structure. The sentence beginning “would it be advisable by you if someone can take a look” also needs restructuring. Use shorter sentences to control agreement, articles, and clause structure, while retaining a few accurate complex sentences.
