Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I would like to raise a concern with the laptop which I bought from your shop 3 months ago. I am having bluetooth connectivity issue so that, I am unable to connect my headphone with the laptop. Since I am using this laptop for my job everyday it is imperative for me to fix this issue. I tend to put on music whenever I am focusing on deep work on my usual tasks. Not only this but also I use it for my meetings since I live in busy, load environment which disturbs me if I do not have my earbud connected. I am requesting you to book a slot for me with your techinician so that he can look into it, and escalate the problem.
I wish you take this matter seriously and help me out as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Kamil Ghori.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you identify the laptop’s Bluetooth problem, explain that it prevents headphone use during focused work and meetings, and request a technician’s appointment. The purpose and your concern remain clear throughout, and the examples make the impact on your work relevant. To make the request more fully developed, specify a practical outcome as well as an appointment—for example, repair, replacement, or a loan laptop if the repair takes time. The closing sentence, “I wish you take this matter seriously,” communicates urgency, but a more direct and appropriately formal request would strengthen the letter’s overall effectiveness.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible sequence: you introduce the purchase and fault, describe its effect on your work, then make a request and close. Linking phrases such as “Since” and “Not only this but also” help connect the explanation to its consequences. However, the main body is presented as one long paragraph, so separating the problem and its impact from the requested action would make the progression easier to follow. The sentence beginning “Not only this but also” is also awkwardly connected to the previous point, and “I wish you take this matter seriously” does not link smoothly to the specific request. Clearer paragraphing and more natural transitions would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for explaining the issue and its effect, with useful task-related terms such as “Bluetooth connectivity,” “headphone,” “meetings,” and “technician.” You also attempt more formal language through “raise a concern” and “imperative,” though some choices are inaccurate or unnatural in context. For example, “book a slot for me with your technician” is less natural than requesting an appointment, while “escalate the problem” does not clearly describe the action you want. There are also spelling errors in “techinician” and “everyday” where “every day” is intended. More precise collocations and careful proofreading would make the letter sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the reason clause in “Since I am using this laptop for my job…” and the purpose clause “so that he can look into it.” The meaning is generally clear, and several sentences are well controlled. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “I am having bluetooth connectivity issue” needs an article and a more suitable tense, and the comma after “so that” is unnecessary. “I wish you take this matter seriously” also needs a different verb pattern, such as “I hope you will take this matter seriously.” Review articles, tense choices, and punctuation around clauses to improve accuracy while retaining your sentence variety.
