Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing this letter to inform you that the headphones you recently supplied are not working well. The problem started two weeks ago. Each time I try to connect to the computer while working, I end up having difficuties in engaging with my clients. It appears as if there is a background noise projection that echoes from the headphones each time I am using them.
This has been a challenge on my day to day activities since I strongly rely on the headphones. I have been failing to complete my daily tasks since it has been difficult hear each other with my patients. Each and every call is disrupted due to the noise echo. Normally, we receive a high number of patients in winter which requires me to work more than expected. However, the problem with the headphones is dragging all my work.
I would appreciate if you replace these headphones or fix them as soon as you can. This will help me run my day to day sessions without any interuptions.
Thank you for helping me in this matter. Lookinh foward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards,
Ruth

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
You cover all three requirements clearly: you identify the headphones and describe the echoing background noise, explain that calls with patients are disrupted and daily tasks are delayed, and request that the company replace or repair them. The details about the problem beginning two weeks ago and the increased winter workload make the complaint specific and relevant. Your requested action is clear, and the letter maintains an appropriately polite tone. To make the response even more complete, specify a preferred remedy—for example, replacement if repair is not possible—and briefly indicate how the company can arrange this. Overall, the purpose and key information are well developed, with only a small opportunity to make the requested next step more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The letter is organised effectively into an opening complaint, an explanation of the impact on your work, and a request for action. This sequence makes the message easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “since,” “However,” and “This will help” show how the ideas relate. The repeated references to calls and interruptions reinforce the central problem, though “Each time” and “Each and every call” make part of the explanation slightly repetitive. Some spacing and punctuation around sentence boundaries also interrupt the otherwise clear presentation. For a more polished progression, combine closely related points and use a clear reference such as “this interference” to avoid restating the same effect.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for explaining the complaint, with useful task-specific terms such as “headphones,” “background noise,” “echo,” “clients,” and “patients.” These choices make the situation understandable. However, some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, including “background noise projection,” “engaging with my clients,” and “dragging all my work.” There are also spelling errors in “difficuties,” “interuptions,” and “Lookinh foward,” which reduce accuracy even though the meaning remains clear. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully: for example, describe “echoing background noise” and say that the issue “is delaying my work.” This would make the complaint sound more precise and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the conditional-style explanation “Each time I try to connect … I end up…” and the contrast introduced by “However.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the reader can follow the sequence of events. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain: “it has been difficult hear” needs “difficult to hear,” and “I would appreciate if” is more accurately written as “I would appreciate it if.” The opening also needs a space after the full stop in “well. The problem,” while “day to day activities” would be clearer with a hyphen when used as a compound modifier. More consistent proofreading and accurate infinitive patterns would improve control.
