Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
Good afternoon. I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter in order to convey my message about the trouble that I am facing while using the laptop which was given to me by the company in order to work remotely.
I am grateful for this facility however,it made my work smooth and easy. But on the other hand it is giving me some trouble from last few days like,It stops working automatically whenever I start working on any of the project and though restarts by itself without getting any command from the user.
Moreover,it not only restarts by itself but began to hang as well which results to delay in making project assisgnments as well as to join the zoom meeting for me.Although this was the reason I mentioned to you in last zoom meeting after you asked me for the delay to join.
On the other hand by putting the last nail to the hammer I just want to request you kindly make some arrangements to get it repaired as soon as possible and to provide the replacement till the time my laptop gets repaire because I beleive company work is the most important thing that should not be delayed by any of these tiny obstacles.
I would be greatful to you.
Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points: you identify the laptop’s automatic restarting and hanging, explain that these problems delay project assignments and Zoom meetings, and request repair plus a temporary replacement. The explanation that the issue caused a late meeting arrival gives the impact a useful specific example. Your purpose is clear throughout, and the polite opening and closing suit a formal complaint. To make the response more fully developed, clarify who supplied the laptop—the task says the shop or company supplied it, while “given to me by the company” could suggest an employer—and specify a practical next step, such as how the company should arrange collection or when you need a replacement. These refinements would make the request more precise and complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable progression from the reason for writing, to the equipment faults, their effect on work, and the requested solution. Paragraph breaks help separate these stages, and phrases such as “Moreover” signal an additional problem. However, some linking is mechanical or illogical: “On the other hand” introduces a request rather than a contrast, and “Although” does not connect clearly to the preceding sentence. The long middle paragraphs also combine several points, while the final request is difficult to follow. Use simpler, more purposeful transitions and give each main function its own paragraph. Clearer links between the fault, its consequences, and the action requested would make the overall progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to explain the situation, including “remotely,” “automatically,” “replacement,” and “delay.” These choices communicate the main problem and its consequences. There are also attempts at more expressive language, but some phrases are inaccurate or unsuitable for a formal business letter, such as “putting the last nail to the hammer” and “tiny obstacles.” Several spelling errors, including “assisgnments,” “repaire,” and “beleive,” reduce accuracy. Some wording is also imprecise: “given to me by the company” does not clearly identify the supplier, and “make some arrangements” is vague. Aim for natural, precise complaint-letter language and check spelling carefully; this will improve control without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “whenever” and “although,” and the reader can generally understand the message. However, some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. For example, “it stops working … and though restarts” lacks a clear subject and verb structure; “which results to delay” uses an incorrect grammatical pattern; and “after you asked me for the delay” is not formed clearly. There are also punctuation and spacing problems, such as “however,it” and the capitalisation after “like,” which make sentence boundaries less controlled. Build complex sentences around complete clauses, and check verb forms, articles, and punctuation. More accurate sentence construction would make your meaning smoother and more professional.
