Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I would like to inform you about an issue that related to the equipment which I am using at job everyday.

Firstly, a couple of month ago, I had bought your brand new vaccume cleaner which is playing crucial role while cleaning the dirty surface at my workplace. Although, it comes with plenty of useful power saving modes, I am facing problem with battery. Therefore, I can not able to clean whole area of our store as well as I need to do clean with my hand.

In addition, when I purchased from your company who gave me insurance card for any future problem and now thhis is the perfect time to use this facility of your brand. I would be grateful if you reply me with appropriate solution of this condition or send a technician at my home to fix this problem as soon as possible.

Best regards, Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three required points: you identify a battery problem, explain that you cannot clean the whole store and must finish by hand, and request a solution or a technician. These details make the purpose clear and relevant. The explanation of the impact is specific, while the requested remedy is less fully developed: for example, you could state whether you want the battery replaced, the equipment repaired under the insurance, or a refund if repair is not possible. The letter is appropriately formal overall, though the salutation and closing could be matched more consistently. The main task is covered, but developing the preferred outcome more precisely would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information follows a sensible order: you introduce the equipment, describe the fault and its effect, then refer to the insurance and request help. Linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Therefore,” and “In addition” help show these stages, and the reader can follow the main message. However, the links sometimes feel mechanical, and the second paragraph combines the insurance detail and the request without clearly separating the steps in your reasoning. The opening paragraph would also be easier to follow if the problem and its effect were expressed in shorter, more direct sentences. Use paragraphing to distinguish the complaint, its impact, and the action you expect, and choose transitions that express the relationship between ideas rather than simply marking sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for a complaint, including “battery,” “power saving modes,” “insurance card,” and “technician,” so the subject is clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “I would be grateful,” although some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural and reduce precision. For example, “equipment which I am using at job everyday” and “playing crucial role while cleaning the dirty surface” do not sound idiomatic; “vacuum cleaner” is also misspelled as “vaccume cleaner.” “Do clean with my hand” is unclear where “clean by hand” would be natural. Focus on accurate spelling and common collocations, and prefer straightforward wording when a more elaborate phrase is uncertain. This would make your vocabulary more precise and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “Although” and a conditional request beginning “I would be grateful if…”. The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For instance, “an issue that related” needs a correctly formed relative clause, and “I can not able” combines incompatible verb forms; use “I cannot” or “I am not able to.” The sentence beginning “Although” is not properly connected to the main clause, and “a couple of month ago” has an incorrect plural form. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction in “when I purchased from your company who gave me insurance card.” Review clause structure, verb patterns, and agreement, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
