Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir,
I wanted to bring into your kind notice that i purchased a keyboard from your shop a couple of months ago.I use it on daily basis because i work online for a remote medical firm. There is an extensive use of keyboard in my work as i make lists of patients, enter their data in tables and make sheets. From last three days i am having issue with the keyboard. It gets hanged in the middle of typing and has subsequently slowed down my work output and it also takes me longer to get done with my given task. Moreover, my employee has complained about delayed submission of the tasks.
Therefore, very humbly i ,want you to either repair my keyboard or exchange it with a new one.I am sending the keyboard via courior service.I have the one year warranty of the keyboard that i am sending along with the keyboard.I will be very obliged to you if you take notice of this matter and solve it as soon as possible.
Thankyou

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you identify the keyboard fault, explain that it slows your work and delays submissions, and request repair or replacement. The details about entering patient data and having a one-year warranty make the complaint relevant and give the company useful context. Your purpose remains clear throughout. To make the response more fully developed, specify what happens when the keyboard “gets hanged” (for example, whether keys stop responding or the device disconnects) and state a practical next step, such as how the company should arrange collection or contact you. The request is polite, but a more direct, precise explanation of the remedy and process would strengthen the letter further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible order: you introduce the purchase and your work, describe the fault and its impact, then make a request. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Therefore” help show how the ideas relate, and the reader can follow the complaint. However, the response is presented as one dense paragraph, so the stages of the letter are not visually separated. Divide it into short paragraphs for the background, problem and impact, and requested action. Some links are also slightly mechanical; for instance, “Therefore” introduces the request but does not need to carry the whole transition. Clear paragraphing and a few more natural transitions would make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the situation, including “remote medical firm,” “patient data,” “delayed submission,” and “warranty,” so the reader understands the context. There are also attempts at formal complaint language, such as “I will be very obliged.” However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, including “bring into your kind notice,” “gets hanged,” and “on daily basis.” Spelling and word-form choices such as “courior” and “Thankyou” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard, natural collocations rather than translating formal phrases literally: for example, say “I am writing to inform you” and “the keyboard freezes.” This would make your vocabulary more precise and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a sentence explaining the keyboard’s effect on your work and another beginning “Moreover.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors in sentence boundaries, articles, tense, and punctuation are noticeable. For example, “From last three days i am having issue” needs a more accurate time expression and present perfect form, while “I use it on daily basis” is missing an article. Several sentences run together without spaces after full stops or commas, and the lowercase “i” is repeated. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, consistent tense, and correct punctuation. More accurate control of these basic patterns would make your longer sentences easier to read.
