Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with wifi dongle which I recently bought from your shop.

The problem is the strength of signals. Whenever I try to connect with my laptop after 10-15 minutes signals are getting lost and the device disconnected automatically.

I am working remotely and I need updated internet everytime. My meetings are getting regularly interrupted because of the signals and it is affecting my whole work. Sometimes either my voice is not getting listen properly by other collegues or sometimes my video.

It would be grateful if you would replace this device with the new one as soon as possible. Because internet is the only thing in work from home that we can rely on it. I already have one year guarantee of this device and I pleased with if you will change this device with the new one.

Thank you for consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Tajinder Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three points clearly: you identify the dongle’s signal problem, explain that it interrupts remote meetings, and request a replacement under the guarantee. The examples about others not hearing your voice or seeing your video make the effect on your work concrete, and the letter maintains a clear, appropriately formal purpose. To strengthen the response further, develop the requested action with a practical detail, such as asking how to return the faulty device or when a replacement can be sent. The explanation that internet is essential when working from home is relevant, but it repeats the impact rather than adding much new support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a clear sequence: complaint, description of the fault, effect on work, and requested solution. Separate paragraphs help the reader identify each stage, while phrases such as “Whenever I try” and “because of” connect the problem to its consequences. The opening and closing also suit a formal complaint. Some links are less smooth: the sentence beginning “Because internet is the only thing…” is detached from the request before it, and the final paragraph repeats the replacement request. Connect these ideas in one complete paragraph and use references such as “this connection” or “the faulty dongle” to make the progression more natural and less repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the complaint and its consequences, with relevant terms such as “wifi dongle,” “signals,” “remotely,” and “meetings.” However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems reduce precision: “strength of signals” would be more naturally expressed as “signal strength,” and “updated internet” does not clearly convey reliable access. “My voice is not getting listen” and “I pleased with” also show difficulty selecting accurate word forms and phrases. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but the range remains limited and some expressions sound unnatural. Build a bank of common complaint-letter phrases and check collocations and spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, including a time clause beginning “Whenever I try to connect…” and a reason clause explaining the effect on your work. The main message remains understandable, but attempts at more complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur across the response. For example, “the device disconnected automatically” needs a suitable verb form, while “I pleased with if you will change” has problems with sentence structure and verb forms. The sentence beginning “Because internet is…” is also incomplete as written. Practise forming complete clauses and controlling verb forms in conditional requests; then proofread articles, agreement, and punctuation to make your sentences more reliable.
