Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to inform you about the product I just bought from your website. I procure handsfree set just two days before, but now I am facing an serious issue. One side of handsfree is not working.

I ordered it from your place because of rating becasue many people were happy moreover, they also gave 5 stars. I received my item on time and I very pleased about that. As I work online and my job requirement is to must have handsfree. Your delivery service is efficient so I ordered from there, but when I opened it, I was shocked.

Now I want a favour from you. You should exchage it as soon possible because without this I am unable to finish my duty. Please put an eye on my request and solve this matter on prirorty basis. I am waiting to hear a word from you.

Yours faithfully,

Khan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover the three main points: you identify the faulty hands-free set, explain that you need it for online work, and request an exchange. The purpose is clear and the tone is generally suitable for a complaint letter. However, some details are less fully developed than others. For example, “One side ... is not working” describes the fault, but you could clarify when you noticed it or whether you tried any troubleshooting. The effect on your work is stated as being unable to finish your duty, but a specific consequence, such as missed calls or delayed tasks, would make this more convincing. The requested action is clear, though you could also ask about return arrangements or a replacement timeframe.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable sequence: it introduces the purchase and fault, gives background about ordering, then explains the work impact and requests a solution. This makes the overall message easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth, however. The sentence about choosing the product because of its ratings shifts into praise for the delivery service before returning to the fault, so the central complaint loses focus briefly. The transition “Now I want a favour from you” is understandable but sounds abrupt and informal. Grouping the fault and its work consequences together, then making the request in a separate closing paragraph, would create clearer progression. Some linking, such as “because” and “but,” is also repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “product,” “rating,” “delivery service,” “exchage,” and “priority basis.” There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “I am writing this letter” and “I am waiting to hear.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for this context: “procure handsfree set,” “put an eye on my request,” and “hear a word from you.” Spelling errors such as “becasue,” “exchage,” and “prirorty” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard complaint-letter collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your meaning sound more precise and professional while retaining the adequate range shown here.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of short statements and longer sentences, and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur in basic sentence patterns, including “I procure handsfree set just two days before,” “I very pleased,” and “my job requirement is to must have handsfree.” These need more accurate tense, articles, and sentence construction—for example, “I purchased a hands-free set two days ago” and “I need a hands-free set for my job.” There is also an awkwardly joined sentence beginning “I ordered it from your place because of rating because…,” where punctuation and clause structure need attention. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine ideas using controlled complex structures.
