Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Acer company,
I am writting this letter to inform you about my dissatisfaction on one of the appliance I previously bought at your store few months ago . The appliance I bought was Acer HD laptop. Recently, the battery of the laptop has been draining really fast and it starts to heat up really quickly .
The main problem I am facing right now with tha laptop is the percistent battery drainage, while i am working on it. This causes the laptop to heat up really fast , which ultimately affects the laptop performance .Furthermore the battery drainage and the heat cause sthe fan of the laptop to run really loudly, which often disturbs my meetings .
The laptop battery has a warranty of 2 years , which is why I tried contacting the customer service online, but to my utter dissapointment my issue wasn't resolved. I hope you can help me out with my laptop.
Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you for your time and co-operation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the equipment and describe its main faults: the battery drains quickly, the laptop heats up, and the fan becomes noisy. You also explain practical effects on your work, including reduced performance and disruption during meetings. However, the request to the company is not specific enough. “I hope you can help me out” does not say whether you want a repair, replacement battery, or refund, and the outcome of your earlier customer-service contact is only briefly mentioned. The letter therefore addresses the task, but some parts are less fully developed than others. State a clear remedy and give relevant details, such as when the problem began or what happened when you contacted support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a generally logical order: you introduce the purchase and fault, describe its impact, then mention the warranty and contact with customer service before closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “which ultimately” and “which is why” show an attempt to connect ideas. Some connections are less smooth, however: the second paragraph repeats the battery and heating problems already introduced, and “Furthermore” is joined directly to the preceding sentence without appropriate spacing or punctuation. The final request also feels abrupt because it does not specify an action. To strengthen progression, group the fault details together, then explain the work impact and finish with a direct request.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to explain the issue, including “battery drainage,” “performance,” “warranty,” and “disturbs my meetings.” These choices make the situation understandable, and “to my utter disappointment” shows an attempt to express dissatisfaction precisely. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “dissatisfaction on,” “one of the appliance,” and “battery drainage” where “rapid battery drain” would sound more natural. There are also spelling errors, including “writting,” “percistent,” and “dissapointment.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy and polish. Check spelling carefully and learn common phrases for complaints and equipment faults.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the clause “which ultimately affects the laptop performance” and the explanation beginning “which is why.” Most ideas remain clear despite some grammatical and punctuation errors. For example, “one of the appliance” needs a plural noun, and “I am writting this letter” has an incorrect verb form and spelling. In “while i am working on it,” the pronoun should be capitalised, and the sentence punctuation around “Furthermore” is faulty. The sentence about the battery warranty and customer service also combines several ideas in a way that is difficult to follow. Aim for accurate articles and plurals, and divide longer sentences where needed.
