Student answer (Band 7.0)
Visiting places with hard terrains has become a global trend. Many tourists prefer to visit the places where conditions are difficult. Tourists are attracted towards the places which are less visited and have extreme weather conditions and hard landscapes. This ongoing trend has benefits as well as disadvantages which will be discussed in the upcoming paragraphs.
On the one hand, visiting difficult places like the Antarctic has several benefits. Firstly, these places are less visited which make them special and in their natural state. Moreover, the wildlife is less affected by the civilization and tourists which leads to surreal experiences. Secondly, the famous spots will be less crowded which will make the whole experience special and relaxing. Moreover, less visitors will ensure cleanliness. Finally, posting social media posts regarding the less seen tourist spots will attract a large amount of audience. Moreover, the travel vloggers prefer to visit and record places which are hardly seen and experienced by majority of the people. Therefore, people these days are choosing places with difficult conditions for holidays.
On the other hand, travelling to the places with hard conditions has its own drawbacks. To start with, as these places are less visited and less maintained, they have major safety concerns like accidents and improper trails. Furthermore, due to lack of civilizations, there are not many hotels and hospitals in harsh terrain. So, any life threatening accidents will not be able to get attended by medical experts and increases the risk of death. Also, the weather conditions at these places are extreme and demands a lot of endurance. Lastly, as these places are rarely visited by tourists, this will increase the risk of the animals attacking the visitors.
To conclude, visiting tourist places with difficult conditions has advantages like raw and undisturbed scenic views, less crowd and it will attract large number of audience for views. But disadvantages include safety issue, harsh weather conditions, and unpredictable wildlife.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing both benefits and disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, such as the appeal of untouched nature and the safety risks involved. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the point about social media is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of its impact on the tourist experience. The position is clear throughout, but the arguments could benefit from more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, ensuring the task requirements are met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the benefits from the drawbacks. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of 'Moreover' is repetitive, appearing four times in the second paragraph alone, which makes the flow feel slightly mechanical. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'surreal experiences' and 'harsh terrain'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'hard terrains' (should be 'harsh' or 'challenging'), 'lack of civilizations' (should be 'lack of infrastructure' or 'remoteness'), and 'attract a large amount of audience' (should be 'a large audience'). These errors do not impede communication but limit the precision of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation. For instance, 'less visitors' should be 'fewer visitors', and 'demands a lot of endurance' should be 'demand' to agree with the plural subject. Additionally, there are some issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. Despite these errors, the grammatical control is sufficient to ensure that the reader is never confused, and the sentence variety is acceptable for this level.
