Student answer (Band 6.5)

Now a days people are more interested in visiting places where conditions are difficult.

Although this trend has advantages ,it also has several disadvantages. This essay will discuss on both sides.

One major advantage is people can experience the rarest beauty of the nature, wild life and gain knowledge about the people who lives at such difficult places. For example, places like Antarctic it is one of the coolest places on the earth but people choose to visit those places to experience the cold weather and to see the scenic beauties of the nature and also to see the wild life like penguins and whales in there natural habitat. Therefore, to experience this once in a life time people are more interested and would like to spend money. As a result people will make memorable memories and gain educational experiences

On the other side, the major disadvantage is in order to survive in those extreme weathers people need to spend a lot of money to buy specialized equipment and suitable clothing. Due to climatic conditions the flights are operated where less to the places like Antarctic we can see the surge in the ticket prices. And also due to the sudden exposure to the extreme cold weathers we may fall sick and medical emergency at those places may even cost more than usual. Therefore, it not only increase the travel cost but due to temperatures it might also effect our health.

In conclusion, Even though there are benefits ,there are also several drawbacks. Therefore, people should carefully consider both aspects before making a decision.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both the benefits and disadvantages of extreme tourism as required by the prompt. The ideas are relevant, such as the unique educational experiences and the high financial costs involved. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on health risks is brief and could have been expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The position is clear throughout, but the essay lacks a more sophisticated level of detail that would be expected for a higher band score. Overall, it covers all parts of the task sufficiently.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One major advantage', 'On the other side', and 'Therefore', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the sentence 'Due to climatic conditions the flights are operated where less to the places like Antarctic' is confusing and disrupts the logical progression of the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary like 'natural habitat' and 'specialized equipment'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'scenic beauties of the nature' (should be 'scenic beauty of nature') and 'memorable memories' (which is redundant). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, the student should focus on more precise collocations and avoid repetitive or redundant phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the nature', 'the Antarctic'), subject-verb agreement ('people who lives'), and prepositions ('in there natural habitat'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining sentence structure to reduce these persistent errors.
