Student answer (Band 6.0)

One of the pressing issues widely discussed nowadays is that in contemporary times, several people are going on excursion to the places with adverse conditions such as Sahara Dessert and Antarctic. In this essay, the advantages will outweigh the disadvantages due to wide range of benefits like increase in employment ratio and increase in tourism prospects which can lead to growth of GDP of a nation.

To commence with, tours and trips break the monotony of life. Nowadays, in hustle and bustle of life, people plan holidays to rejuvenate themselves by unwinding stress of daily routine. It helps them to increase productivity, triggers their dopamine energies and enlighten their mood by making them more proactive and optimistic in life. Travelling is also beneficial in longer terms for a better well-being. Moreover, despite being risky affair, a person should be allowed an autonomy to have at least a once in a lifetime experience along with all the precautionary measures. As travelling to such places can improve living standards of the local people, enhances cross-culture by strengthening bonds between the nations, aids in improving biodiversity of the region, alleviate unemployment, and proliferates tourism sector.

Nevertheless, travelling to such high temperature spots can deteriorate health as dealing with high altitude requires immense amount of fitness level when visiting places with -50 degree to +50 temperature which it is not easy to sustain. For instance, people can suffer from breathing issues due to lack of oxygen, burnouts, skin disease and many more when on expedition to such hazardous places. Additionally, people are unaware about hygiene measures, therefore government can impose taxation to maintain such attractive spots.

To recapitulate, although travelling to high intensity areas could be challenging but on the contrary side, government should have directory guidelines and training period which helps people to travel with convenience to such places and also it could elevate future prospects of the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both the benefits and disadvantages of visiting extreme environments. The position is clear from the introduction, and the ideas are generally relevant. However, some points are under-developed; for example, the claim that tourism in the Sahara or Antarctica 'aids in improving biodiversity' is not explained or supported with logical reasoning. While the essay covers all parts of the prompt, the development of ideas lacks depth in certain sections, and some arguments, such as the link between tourism and GDP growth, are stated rather than fully explored. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task but could benefit from more specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'Nevertheless', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'on the contrary side' in the conclusion, which is not a standard idiomatic expression. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. The flow is generally smooth, though the connection between sentences could be more sophisticated in places.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including terms like 'rejuvenate', 'proactive', 'biodiversity', and 'proliferates'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'dopamine energies' and 'high intensity areas' (when referring to extreme climates). Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'Dessert' instead of 'Desert'. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for some flexibility, the occasional errors in word choice and the reliance on some repetitive phrasing prevent it from reaching a higher band. The range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'in hustle and bustle of life' (missing article), 'a person should be allowed an autonomy' (incorrect article usage), and 'which it is not easy to sustain' (redundant pronoun). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are instances where sentence construction is slightly awkward. While the errors do not impede communication, they occur with enough frequency to suggest a lack of full control over complex structures. More attention to articles, prepositions, and sentence-level syntax would improve the accuracy.
