Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying benefits such as personal growth and social media influence, and disadvantages like health risks and isolation. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the mention of an 'Indian girl' visiting a Sikh temple is not clearly linked to the South Pole or the topic of extreme tourism, making the example confusing and irrelevant. While the position is clear, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended with more logical reasoning and concrete, relevant examples to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'However', and 'Firstly' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For instance, the transition 'the fear of facing any situation in the life comes less difficult' is clunky and impacts the smooth progression of ideas. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated linking words to improve the flow between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of unnatural collocations and word choice errors, such as 'instills lot of confidence' (should be 'a lot of'), 'influencer on the social media' (should be 'an influencer on social media'), and 'discourages to the continue the visit'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'scarcity' and 'harsh weather conditions', the overall range is limited, and the errors occasionally draw attention to the language rather than the content.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors. Common issues include missing articles ('visited Sikh temple'), incorrect verb forms ('has rewarded by', 'has lost their lives'), and awkward sentence construction ('the fear of facing any situation in the life comes less difficult'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and passive voice constructions.
