Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both the benefits and disadvantages of tourism in extreme environments. The ideas are relevant, such as economic growth and scientific discovery as benefits, and environmental degradation as a disadvantage. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of 'inventing new species' is factually confusing and lacks clarity. While the position is clear, the arguments could be more deeply explored with more specific examples or logical chains to reach a higher band. The response covers all parts of the prompt, but the depth of analysis is limited, keeping it at a solid mid-range level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'For instance', and 'Moreover'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'Whereas' at the start of sentences. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and grammatical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the benefits from the drawbacks, which helps the reader follow the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'extreme places in earth' instead of 'on Earth' and 'human traffic' which is slightly unnatural in this context. Some phrases are repetitive, and there is a lack of sophisticated collocations. While the meaning is generally clear, the lexical range is limited to basic or common terms, and there are minor errors in word formation, such as 'economically benefited' instead of 'benefited economically'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('has became', 'is benefits'), article usage ('the Antarctic'), and awkward sentence construction ('the risks and the drawbacks are can not be ignored'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and occur in both simple and complex sentences. A greater focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and preposition usage would significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of the writing.
