Student answer (Band 6.0)

In contemporary world, the majority of people have initiated visiting places which are likely to be less developed and has inhospitality such as Sahara dessert or the Antarctica. Although these places can offer people with exceptional experience of adventure, it includes risks which are life-threatening.

One of the primary benefits of visiting these risky places is exploring and experiencing incredible places which are unbelievable to exist. Travel itinerary to adventurous, less developed, highly risky and poor transport system places are always attracted by people who are always ready to explore difficult situation and then brag about it. For instance, people who want to gain a few followers, likes and subscribers on social media often visit these places. Additionally, some people can write a book about their survival from adventurous trips involving endangered species.

Furthermore, trips to risky places can be fun and exciting but it comes with multiple disadvantages. The principal danger is putting oneself in an inevitable danger situation which can be life-threatening. Places which barely have hospitality, transport system, and other tourists could make it difficult for a person to reach to the nearest protection area in case of emergencies. For example, people coming from other countries barely have an idea about place's connectivity, hospitality and medical amenities, and in this situation if they visit places which lack all basic human requirement can put their lives in danger.

In conclusion, Although exposing to adventurous places which are risky, could provide people with exceptional experience and ideas to write a book or famous story, it could get dangerous and create a life-threatening situation.

A normal travel itinerary always excludes dangerous places to avoid any life-threatening situation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both the benefits and disadvantages of visiting extreme locations. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the benefit of 'gaining followers' on social media is a modern observation but lacks depth, and the discussion on disadvantages is repetitive, focusing heavily on the lack of infrastructure. The position is clear, but the argument could be strengthened by exploring more diverse impacts, such as environmental consequences or personal growth. The conclusion is slightly disjointed, as it includes an extra sentence that does not fit the flow of the essay. Overall, the task is addressed, but the ideas require more thorough expansion to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'it includes risks' in the introduction, where the pronoun 'it' does not clearly refer to a singular noun. The final sentence of the essay appears disconnected from the main body, suggesting a lack of careful planning in the concluding section. Paragraphing is present but the internal flow within paragraphs could be smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors. For example, 'has inhospitality' should be 'is inhospitable', and 'protection area' is not the standard term for 'emergency services' or 'rescue services'. The phrase 'poor transport system places' is grammatically clunky. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'itinerary' and 'amenities', the overall range is limited, and the errors occasionally draw attention to the language rather than the ideas being expressed.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Subject-verb agreement issues are common, such as 'the majority of people have initiated visiting... and has inhospitality'. There are also errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'in contemporary world' (needs 'the') and 'reach to the nearest' (the verb 'reach' does not take 'to'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to suggest a lack of control over complex structures. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure needs more refinement.
