Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying benefits such as educational opportunities and skill development, and disadvantages like health risks, high costs, and environmental impact. The position is clear throughout. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the link between visiting extreme locations and 'organization' or 'time-management' skills is asserted rather than explained in detail. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with more specific reasoning or illustrative examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For instance', 'Additionally', 'Apart from that', and 'On the contrast'. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'On the contrast' (should be 'In contrast') and the use of 'Which' to start a sentence in the third paragraph, which creates a fragmented feel. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. There are attempts to use less common items like 'detrimental effects', 'un-touched', and 'captivating', which demonstrate a reasonable range. However, there are several instances of awkward collocation and word choice, such as 'fatal conditions' instead of 'fatal consequences', and 'litter could be enter' (grammatical error affecting lexical clarity). The repetition of terms like 'normal trips' and 'natural locations' suggests a need for a wider variety of synonyms to express ideas with more precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('this types of trips', 'climate chances'), incorrect preposition usage ('in this conditions'), and sentence fragments ('Which is responsible for...'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with accurate subordinate clauses.
