Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is irrefutable that an increasing number of people have been visiting extreme weather conditions such as Sahara and Antarctic. While some believe this trend has disadvantages , I strongly support it as a positive development. As these journeys help build resilience and explore nature as well as unique adventure.

To begin with, one benefit is that visiting such places is the unique experience they offer. It is an opportunity for them to explore the extreme places and it also helps them to build the confidence to visit this place or others like that again and again. For example, tourists who visit the North Pole and Greenland have the opportunity to witness the beautiful places as well as the landscapes.

However, there are also negative points to visiting such places. First of all., the lack of proper infrastructure medical facilities and communication networks can leave tourists vulnerable in case of emergencies. Secondly, the harsh weather conditions and lack of basic amenities can pose a serious risk to visitors. For instance, tourists visit the high mountains such as the Himalayas and Mount Everest can face the risk of altitude sickness.

In Conclusion, visiting challenging places can provide amusement sources and unique and unforgettable experiences but it can also be risky and have negative effects. It is important that tourists should have proper information of this places and be well prepared. Also the government should organize safety rules at that places for visitors who are doing activities there and also encourage them not throw the plastic waste there to safe the beauty of that places for future generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both the benefits and disadvantages of visiting extreme locations. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention 'resilience' and 'unique experience' as benefits, these points are not fully explored with detailed examples. The disadvantages section is more concrete, mentioning infrastructure and health risks. To improve, ensure that your arguments are supported by more specific, extended examples rather than brief mentions. Your position is clear throughout, but the introduction could be more effectively linked to the prompt's specific context of extreme tourism.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'In Conclusion' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'this place or others like that'. The use of cohesive devices is sufficient to guide the reader, but more varied linking words and better integration of ideas within paragraphs would elevate the score. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the benefits and drawbacks.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'infrastructure', 'amenities', and 'altitude sickness'. However, there is some repetition of basic words (e.g., 'places', 'visit', 'tourists'). There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'amusement sources' and 'to safe the beauty', which should be 'to preserve the beauty'. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of less common vocabulary and ensuring precise word choice.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the Sahara', 'the Antarctic'), pluralization ('this places'), and sentence fragments or awkward phrasing ('As these journeys help build resilience and explore nature as well as unique adventure'). Punctuation errors, such as 'First of all.,', also occur. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
